Playground Mod

Well...

Try the upload system I use to send you the Playground Mod files.

Have you guys considered new city graphics? For such a fanciful mod, the city graphics are awfully mundane. The only problem is that new graphics might clash with the watercolor terrain.

Currently playing a game as Char. The Chase is going on a huge rampage on their continent. Once you've made Chase start in Despotism and learn Civil War Complex later, that should help tone them down.

Looking through the science menu, Char doesn't seem to get any new units after 5th grade. Am I missing something?

Char isn't supposed to get any units after 5th grade, as it has ceased to exist by that point. In mid 4rth grade, Char was conquered by Horse and the Galaxy Wars Club, both of which were absorbed into the newly created Boy Union late 4rth grade.

You and your music obsession. :p

I'm strangely busy these days. More so than normal, because of summer school. So... Yeah. I haven't done much lately.

EFZI2 has custom music! Thus, we must have custom music! We must outdo every single civ3 mod/scenario ever made!!!!!!!!!:crazyeye:

And another thing that's kinda been bothering me: We need to put some more focus on naval stuff. Most civs, from the start of the game to the very end, have a grand total of 4 ships available to them. And the first ship one gets moves very fast, and it's not long before it can explore on oceans, making exploration much faster than in normal games.
Besides, with all the ships made by Orthanc, there should be plenty of stuff available for us to add, and make the navy more diverse.

Yeah, but you said that there weren't many ships in the Playground. That is historically inaccurate! :p

Despite the inclusions of another civ that never existed in the Playground with you.

Well, I've have been considering a CFC civ just for the heck of it. (King unit: Thunderfall. MGLs: The mods. SGLs: Notable C3C&C modders. Units are based on early to late in their creation dates.)

But this would screw things up too much like the inclusion of 4254564526365675967 new pokemon did to the Pokemon series, and this would need a whole new tech tree (thus excessive work), which is why I've decided against it.

Mainly because we were too lazy to imagine boats to go with our imaginary oceans. No one ever bothered explaining how our armies were being transported across the oceans.
Thus, in this complete vacuum of ideas, I say that there's nothing to stop us from just making up whatever we want to.;)

Ok... How many imaginary naval battles did you end up having for starters?

And how about an explanation for this air force while we are on this topic? That I never got.

Well, lots of battles were fought in the middle of the "Ocean". It's just that we really never bothered thinking about the fact that our ground forces were fighting other ground forces in the middle of water. We were really too busy with the wars to add all the imaginary stuff until after the war was over, at which point most of the really crazy/creative people who had been in the war would all start making stories, and AoE scenarios, and all sorts of stuff based on the war we'd just fought, and eventually everyone's interpretations of the war would slowly come together and form a general consensus on the war.

Confusing, but it somehow worked out in the end.

Yeah... So most of the battles took place in the water... And you called them land battles anyways because they are cooler? Eh. The mod is based on what you thought was "cool", and since the naval part of it is so insignificant...

So you just pitched it in just for the heck of it? I've got time to hear the explanation.

Did I have any part in the writing of this with the random things I've introduced (the Communist/Middle Eastern theme for the Rebs comes to mind), or was that just a "whatever, let's go" type thing?

Well, whether we had an air force or not depends on the person, with some people writing/scenario making the Playground with only medieval tech, and others (Such as me) just doing a random and nonsensical mixture of tech from every age, provided it looked cool. Since I'm in the mod team, and none of the people against tech mixture are, we gonna go with my side's version.;)
And we did have a navy. Theoretically. We acknowledged that for our wars to make sense, there had to be some navalness in it, even if we only payed attention to it after the war was over (And even then, barely any, as none of of knew anything about naval warfare). The idea that the BU should have a strong navy came from dis logical dinking:
1) The BU mostly control's "islands".
2) The BU needs some way to defend those islands.
3) While having your army run across the ocean and fight against invaders makes sense on a Playground, where the ocean is really just some sand, it doesn't really work when you try to apply real world logic to it.
4) Thus, the BU must have a strong navy that defends its island.
This also led to FA's strong airforce, as the idea was made when FA and BU were still main rivals (Before Senso), and thus had to be opposites.

And yes, you have contributed to the "Playground Canon", mainly because the Playground Canon consists of whatever seems to be the coolest interpretation at the time.:crazyeye:

I see. So how does Alexi/Chris/anyone-else-involved-in-the-wars think of this mod?

K. But I think BU got the short end of the stick because a navy needs water to float while an air force needs only land (and not to mention those Air force wing things). But I think we can balance it out by giving BU some uber navy generating buildings. And I think we should quit while we're ahead and not overload this with everything thinkable and run it to death. (no increased navy. This was sort of emphasizing land battles to begin with.)

Sweet.

Well, none of them have civilization, but I have told them a bit about the mod. They think it cool idea.

Yeah, naval generating buildings seems like good idea.
Maybe we should have FA's airforce wings and BU's naval generating things go obsolete eventually, to keep them from getting massive, 100 unit airforces/navies? Maybe either at 6th grade or Stricter Rules?
Fine, no bajillion naval units.....

Though given that BU's navy must appear earlier because of the inherent disadvantage that navies need coastal cities and water, where airforces only need a city or an airport.

Probably somewhere between 4rth and 5th grade. Something like Military Training or Mercenaries. And if you really want to lessen the advantage FA's airforce has over BU's navy, give the BU carriers, or give their unique battleship unit the ability to act like a carrier.
