Playing as SPQR (senate): no shrines/temples?

So I conquered all my provinces on a gaul campaign, then decided to try out playing as SPQR. I can't seem to be able to build shrines though.. when I look in other roman towns they don't seem to have shrines either. Did anyone eelse experience this if you ever played as SPQR? Gonna suck trying to take over the world if I can't build temples:(

Btw- is there any place that has some kind of unit chart that lists all units and their stats?

Edit- Just saw the julii have a ceres temple in one of their towns, so it isn't all romans.. just me :(

There is a reason they are originally unplayable.

I noticed when I played them once, as soon as I moved my army away from Rome the Julii declared war on me, even though it was in the first few turns.

I tried playing them once. It doesn't really work well.

BTW has anyone tried playing the rebels?

I tried it, and it is messed up. You are deep in debt, and random brigand armies pop up every turn and you get to control them. Your cities riot and but won't rebel. Diplomats can be trained but can only bribe, and it the diplomacy screen is messed up.

Strangle, I didn't know you could. Why can I not select the rebels, even when I set them to playable?

What do you mean? Do you mean that when you select the rebels, the game crashes or they don't show up in the imperial campaign screen?

I think he means the latter.

I read somewhere that there was a limit to the numebr of playable factions, so in order to play rebels you have to make another one unplayable.

This may sound noobish, I don't care.

But, how do you play as SPQR? I really want to, but don't know how.

Is it to do with the Program Files?

I forgotten the path.

Edit one of the files in your total war folder, I forget which one it is.
It is simple though, it opens up in notepad and you just move the factions from unplayable to playable.

Which file?

I'm in 'descr_strat' and 'descr_strat_allies'. They seem the same to me, but there are three subtitles; 'campaign playable', 'end unlockable' and 'end nonplayable'.

There is nothing under 'end unlockable', and every faction under 'campaign playable', apart from the Brutii, Scipii, SPQR and the slaves; which are under 'end nonplayable'.

I don't know why the Brutii and Scipii are there, as I can play as them.

I am really confused by all of this.

Someone help me. =]].

Thanks.

descr_strat is the one

What I did with vanilla was put soem of the non-playable into unlockable. But with mods I havn't needed to do that as all the playable ones are unlocked.

Are you using a mod?

No, I'm not using any mods or patches.

Should I be, or something?

The reason I am confused, though, is that all the playable factions are in 'playable', even when they aren't unlocked, so there are no factions in 'unlockable'. Where should SPQR be put?

SPQR should to put in playable

Sort of a noobish question, but how exactly do you manually unlock factions? I'm not particularly interested in playing as the Senate, but I'd like to try some of the others.
