it is more fun than standard, cause it is easier. being the noob i am, i cant think of playing this game any way other than marathon. i tried other speeds with lower difficulties, it is not the same.

I second that. Speeds less than marathon, including epic seem way too fast for my liking. I want a game that I immerse myself into for days or weeks. I want an experience that I contemplate before I sleep and while I'm at workplace during the day.
Although standard is considered to be the best balance, marathon has received a lot of work even recently from changelogs. It's becoming balanced across the board. However it will probably always be true that wars will be the advantage towards human player epic and above simply because we strategize better with more available turns. But, I only play at king so I have many steps to go until deity.
And if/when I reach deity level, than I make it more challenging by picking a typically underpowered civ to start with or force myself to have less than desirable starting locations. Replayability is certainly the case for this expansive mod. I can't say the same for the majority of games released on the Steam platform.

So? What's the point of this thread? :p
oh just sharing my point. i am not complaining if that is what u think. the point is quite obvious. i like to play marathon. is posting that wrong here? is it the wrong place ? if so i will delete the post.if so, please tell me what place can i express my opinion about some aspects of the mod.

He's just being funny. It's a good question though. I believe the question would be "What are some reasons as to why Marathon speed is not better for you?" Or the opposite and than we compare or contrast. The idea is that, it ought to not be so vastly different from one speed to another.

I think we can change Marathon for "total-war speed", with epic at least you can try to win with other victories.

Ok, so for me these are 3 reasons why it's not better for me:
1) Marathon games might be tedious to play, because of length,
2) Vox Populi is balanced on Standard speed, so I expect worse experience on Marathon,
3) Human has the biggest advantage over AI in war, which have the biggest impact on Marathon speed (as OP mentioned), causing more imbalance.

Don't humans have the biggest advantage in war because its the hardest part to execute correctly? :P

What are the victories you usually reach ?

Marathon player only here.
CV even if I don't look for it. Must be disabled. Culture could be ajusted.
There was a bug few versions ago, where tourism was multiplied two times by gamespeed instead of once, leading to absurd results (x16 instead of x4, or something like that).
Maybe that's the cause.

Anyways, if you have some time when playing marathon, making some consistency checks on the value of yields could help finding bugs.

Yeah. CV is problematic on epic or marathon... Either you snowball all others or someone snowballs you. There are only realy feeeew times that it was a race between equal parties.

This hasn't been my experience on Epic speed Emperor difficulty. I played as the Mayan. Huge World. 16 civs at start, fewer city states. Space Victory

The game I won in February with the December patch had multiple Civs at multiple times of the game vying for power. China was crushing it with Culture and swapped the point lead with Inca a couple times, until Songhai and I, through multiple wars were finally able to break their lines and advance on the capitol. Songhai then went on to blitz and conquer an entire Continent once flight became available. The Zulu were conquering another continent and often tried to come after me. Indonesia, on the other hand, reached space before anyone and gave me a huge run for the money on getting that Victory, what with both Songhai and the Zulu having having very large military on my border that I had to devote production to matching. Thank God I know how save great engineers.

While there were weaker civs, the top of the pack were fairly close in score and techs for most of the game.

It's just a matter of probability that the more are civs are in a game the more will likely to be "in top"

I play Marathon exclusively as well.
Allthough it feels a bit exploitve some times, since 3 archers and the starting scout are enough to conquer a capitol (or even two), because you have such a large window of opportunity.

I play Marathon as well, though at times I question why when I rarely finish games (and it's sometimes incredibly frustrating to lose like 900 turns in)... but I enjoy taking my time in the early game, seeing things slowly set up.

I would like to play marathon this summer when I have more free time. But how do y'all cope with late game turn times? I am in the end stages of an epic game from a late Feb version and the Zulu alone take 2-3mins for their turn to process, and this is with quick movement/quick combat enabled for them. I read in the patch notes of one of the March versions that turn times had been quicked somewhat, but I didn't see anyone speak on the difference, even when I asked.

I don't play Civ without an audiobook, movie, series, stream, youtube or something on the other screen. Or roleplaying on my laptop. But I enjoy multitasking my entertainment a tad much. :P
