This is a public service announcement from your Term 2 Judiciary.

Hand-written flyers are being distributed throughout Fanatica as we speak.

Playing the Save

There have been some concerns epxressed directly and indirectly about playing the save outside a play session, and what you can do.

From the Constitution:
Code:
Article M. Playing the Save
Commission of any game action by any person other than
the Designated Player while carrying out their duties
that is not instantly reversible without reloading the
            save is strictly forbidden.
              1. Exception: Determining options in the renegotiation
of Peace agreements requires an action of acceptance
or war to exit the bargain screen. This may be done
but the game must be immediately closed without
                  saving.

The key parts of this are "instantly reversible without reloading the save", and that the only exception is the renegotiation of peace agreements.

That's it. Anything else you do that cannot be undone without reloading the save is out. That means no playing head, no experimenting with multiple, linked trades, no seeing if we'd win a particular battle, nothing that cannot be instantly reversed.

If you have any questions on this, please don't hesitate to post or ask. Likewise, if you have any suggestions or comments, don't hesitate to post.

Thank you very much for this clarification. I was just pondering whether to ask for the things allowed.

I conclude:

We must not trade maps.

We must not declare war and see how much potential allies charge for an alliance.

We may offer various trades to the different civs, but we may not commit to any of them.

We have to apply our knowledge and instincts on what is the best sequence of trades.

Correct.

Correct, but you can check for each civ want they want for an alliance in the current state of the game.

Correct.

The last point by tao is a key one. If you are playing a game by yourself, you can guage the options available to you, but you have to guess for the best order, and about any future options that will open up because of a particular trade. The same has to apply to the DG. By carrying out multiple trades, it is possible to determine the absolute best order and all potential options, but you've now eliminated the "surprise" factor from the game.

The idea of the DG is a group of people playing a game as a single person. We have to introduce limitations upon ourselves to keep to that concept, hence the "Thou Shalt Not Play The Save" rule.

Thanks!
