I prefer capturing workers to fighting with them. It just peeves me a little when the AI used a unit to suicide attack a single slave worker just to disband said slave unit. I've seen the AI charge a 1hp cav 2 squares into my territory to do this when the cav is next to his border and could be back inside the AI city healing nicely for the next offensive. It makes no sense!!!
TerraHero how about a "Combat Engineer" unit available on or soon after replacement parts. Give them the 6/8/1 stats with the ability to do all worker jobs at worker rates? Could also be a possible upgrade route for crusader units?
How about instead of giving workers a defense of 1 you were able to let warriors road (like the Legionary in RoR). Most workers in danger of capture are usually trying to build roads to connect border cities or recently captured cities.
If the worker had a defense of 1 does the AI still try to capture them or does it see them as a military unit? I will frequently use undefended workers as bait to lure an attacking unit away from my city or better yet into a move closer to one of my offensive units.
DJMGator13, as the AI is now it probably wouldn't hunt them as much. The reason they capture them as much as they do now is to avoid fighting. Workers with defense will be fighting back and will then be less tempting.
And sorry about being serious. I see clear now that of course it is blasphemy to be serious in a forum
Well it's not only the zero defence that tempts but also that the AI will get a free supported unit. So if workers had defence they couldn't be captured and so wouldn't be more tempting than a warrior. I don't think the AI would make attacks with 1 hp units if workers had defence.
And my impression is that the AI views it as a big difference between 0 and 1 in defence since it makes the difference if their will be a fight even though it would be an almost sure win.
