One with the same depth and useability as CIV5, being an old original civilization vet, i play civ 5 exclusively in strategic view.

I understand that's not for everyone, but for me, i can't quite see well enough to quickly make decisions on terrain that is all "natural and high def" or whatever you want to call it.

I like my tiles. i like my strategic view.
Make sure you guys bring this into BE please, thank you.

Also things like always showing yields, and overlaying hex grids :) Also resource icons please, i know it's still early in production but i want to make sure that somone voices their desire for these things.. i dont want them overlooked :P

Though now that i think about it - i doubt anyone from firaxis reads these forums anyway, ohwell

I believe it will be in the game already. If I had to guess, it'll probably it will be this button:

Also, yes, they do read these forums.

I can confirm that hex grid overlay and showing tile yields is there. We've seen screenshots with the overlay and the recent live stream showed yields turned on briefly. I'm sure we'll have resource icons and strategic view as well. As for Firaxis, the guy that did the livestream posted in the thread on it here, so at least some of their employee's read these forums.

Good to hear, thanks :)

another question for you guys , im watching the livestream event from a couple of days ago and i noticed AI fall at various years, i like this. a lot.

Do you think we will get the ability to trade off starting units (scientists, warriors etc) for earlier drop date?

I feel like that could be a really cool mechanic.

Also pete during the livestream let his explorers die to miasma twice. i thought that was funny lol

No, because the human player always lands first. However, the player can choose not to take special colonists (scientists, artists, etc) and instead start the game with 2 pop in the capital.

While I don't actuallycplay in strategic view, I concur that I would like it's inclusion. I use it to find resources and plan conquests because ethereal map can get awfully cluttered fast with units and improvements. Searching the world for that elusive coal deposite is much easier in strategic view.

I think the orbital layer replaced the strategic view of CiV in Civ:BE. Must've been much easier to reprogram then to add another interface layer to the game.

It neither looks nor acts like Strategic View. I'm sure there are easier ways to add an orbital layer than to heavily modify strategic view.

Is there any reason to believe that they took it out? They are after all using the Civ V engine, or at least basing the Civ:BE engine on the old one.

I could as well take the question around. Is there any reason to believe they added another interface layer to the game if there's already one they can adapt to their purposes? IMO, the answer is no.

The satellite view is still using the regular 3D view, though, just with a grey shader overlaid. Turning a 2D view into another 3D layer sounds like more effort...

Thank you. Said it better than I could have.

How the bloody heck can you have a pre-existing feature in a game not even released yet?

"Pre-existing feature" is probably not the best term to describe strategic view. But in short it was a feature in Civ V which is the exact same engine to the point that Beyond Earth is catching flak for being a "reskinned Civ V". It's a rarely used feature, but one that is used often enough and provides enough utility it's surprising that it was taken out.
