DVD disk delivery. Whole installation procedure seems to proceed correctly to the end. So far so good. But then. Original package includes only one DVD disk and its installation program doesn't work correctly. At starting the game I get following announcement "Please insert the correct CD-ROM, press OK and restart application". Official advice of two disks in this situation is not right. Any of other given advices concerning this situation doesn't work: Installation of last patch doesn't help, neither changing drive cable places, nor several drive startups. Installation procedure doesn't either create necessary civilizationIV.ini file. Is there anyone to explain what to do next.

Disk one yes. But there is only one DVD disk.
Ah. I didn't realize there was a different types of media released. (A lot of people were confused by the 2-cd version's disk being labelled backwards.)

I would suggest emailing Take2 and monitoring the Civ4 - Technical Support Forum. I spotted a thread there about it but so far no resolution.

Good luck.

Hi
Real reason for installing difficulties is obviously copy protection or something corresponding created by Firaxis/Macrovision/2kgames.

Absolutely I'm not going to delete files of my HP CD burner. Installing of "sd4hide.exe" file is out of question.

I'm expecting new patch soon. Program must be corrected by creators not by enduser's tricks.
Thanks

Um, yeah, sorry your illegal copy doesn't work. :shakehead

not to fan the fires, but I believe he has a legal DVD copy (talks about packaging). Also, as he explained, he doesn't want to use sd4hide or some other crack, and wants a developer solution to the problem.

Edit: I forgot to add my actual usefull comments. When using the CD version to install I had similiar problems. It kept asking for the correct disk, I tried both disk 1 and 2 to no avail. I think I eventualy quit the install thing and put disk one in and tried to launch the game and it worked. I dont remeber quite exactly what I did, but it eventualy recognized that the disc was in there.

I have original copy/package (in my country laws are to be followed). I tried it during several days using all known means. Disk doesn't work. I found one solution. It's not any more legal.

I retire now.

If your secdrv.sys file is a lower version (right click > properties) than 4.00.060 you might want to try this URL: http://www.macrovision.com/products/safedisc/downloads.shtml

(If I at least remember correctly the protection scheme being SafeDisc.)

My retail package is also a DVD by the way and I didn't have any issues with my LiteOn DVD-RW drive on Windows XP SP2.

In many instances, if you have certain CD Imaging software on your computer, or a virtual CD drive installed, the copy protections do not like that and will not allow the game to be played. (This is because the imaging software or virtual drives allow a game to be copied and run while avoiding the copy protection). So if the copy protection on the Civ4 disc sees this software installed it will not allow the game to run.

I have the same problem. I have a LEGAL DVD version of Civ 4. However when I try to play I get the message "Please insert the correct CD-ROM,..........)
I even installed safedisc. The problem is not solved. I wrote to Firaxis & 2k games - No response so far.
If anyone can suggest alternatives please help
(Am running WinXP with SP2- I do have Nero running)

I've the same problem,

I bought the game yesterday, installed it and patched it to 1.52 and now it's just complaining about my original DVD.

Well, actually the problem is not unkown for me, since i had (have) it with Need for Speed Most Wanted as well. In the NFSMW manual there is a mentioned that with NFSMW the problem occours when the firmware of your DVD-device is too old. Could be the same problem!
But i didn't update my device, so i dont know if that will fix it.

Hello! I have same problem. So looks like people in Europe just get 1 DVD and not 2 CD-ROMs... So how to solve this problem I dont know... Any new updates about this? I've done much of the suggestions at this page, but still same problem, "please insert the correct DVD-ROM, select OK and restart application"

Some of the current copy protections do not like SCSI optical drives, along with the more obvious burning software, virtual drive programs and disk imaging programs. If none of these describe your system, I would hazard a guess that the optical drive is not completely compatible with the disk format/copy protection... some people haven't been able to read the disks at all, and had to flash their drives or some such, which may just be an extreme case of the same problem.

Otherwise, maybe there is a problem with the DVD production line. Personally, I'd probably ask the manufacturer for a disk replacements: CDs in place of the DVD.

I’ve had the same problem. I bought a perfectly legal copy from amazon.co.uk, got the DVD version, installed it nicely and patched it to 1.52. Right from the start, I was getting the same error message about inserting the correct CDROM. Checked the secdrv.sys version, no problem there either.

Finally, I had to resort to sd4hide.exe. Worked smoothly.

Very poor work from Firaxis on this issue and no support, whatsoever, outside US & Canada.

How do I do that? :) Please write step by step that I aint that clever about computers! :D

Google "sd4hide", download and install, run it, click on "Hide", play Civ, click on "Restore". End of story.
