--Pokemon Game Thread--

Terrible? It is one of the best in the game IMO.

Extremely high attack, and very high speed, Return, Aeriel Ace, Shadow Ball and Swords Dance, and you got your Physical pokemon. It is like the Physical version of Alakazam!

I don't play D/P because IMO they ruined the franchise by moving to DS. (IE, I don't have a DS, and DS emu's suck)

Apart from the unimaginative new pokemon in D/P, it's a very good extension.

Also, terrible is probably a little harsh, but Absol doesn't have a lot of speed compared to quite a few other pokemon with better type combos to be a physical attacker. Missing a move that'll give a 50% bonus to the attack power just from being the same type as the pokemon hurts Absol badly compared to, say, Crobat.

That doesn't matter much. Absol's attack is so high it still get's the job in.

Absol still has lots of speed, he will outrun 90% of pokemon. I wouldn't use Absol on the other 10%, I have 5 other capable pokemon. Remember?

Question: What is the best starting pokemon in FireRed/Leafgreen?

I always pick Blastoise for his awesome looks..

Venasaur is the best because the other grass pokemon suck, but if you don't care about grass types, Charizard.

Meh, your game, you can play however you want. Absol still sucks.

Ok, so this is my Absol vs my Kadabra, both at level 37, we are at Fuchsia city.

Now who doubts Absol? He is roughly as good as Kadabra. Kadabra only has higher speed on absol, and that doesn't matter as Absol is already pretty fast. Kadabra has higher Sp Defense, because Absol's defense is spread out more evenly between the two.

Absol's moveset is good as well. Aeriel Ace/Shadow Ball/Return and Swords Dance. Can counter anything easily, and if something tricky comes up, 1 swords dance and one of his attacks = pwnage.

How strong does Return get when Absol fully loves you? I was thinking of using Slash instead because of it's critical hit ratio, but I head Return get's to 120 base power when fully loved.

I dont like Kadabra/Alakazam because they die so easily to a single hit. They have excellent Spf Attacks and good speed but I find it infuriating that they can't live a single physical move. And their Spf Defence is not at all impressive. I suppose Recover does negate that flaw but you can't always recover.

In Firered and LeafGreen. I'll prefer Hypno to Alakazam. Hypno has good Spf Defence and adequate def. It may not be very fast or as strong as Alakazam. But it can last longer in battles.

I still prefer Alakazam to Hypno, but that is just me. (I also don't like Drowsee and Hypno's pics :p)

I should probably mention that Kadabra has Modest Nature while Absol has some nature that raises defense over SP defense. So Absol naturally has higher Attack than Kadabra has Sp. Attack.

Kadabra has another evolution available though.

I can't remember exactly, but I though Ghost moves were specials, making Shadow Ball a much better option on Kadabra. If not, at least teach it Shock Wave.

EDIT: Just for comparison, my level 30 heracross is 101 attack, 58 defence, 38 Sp. Attack, 64 Sp. Defense, 66 Speed. It's a little slower than your Absol, but with Brick Break it's got an attack with 112.5 base power, and super effective hits against a few types. Whereas Return fully loved has only 102 base power, and no super effectives.

Ghost is Physical.

I'm aware of Kadabra's other Evolution.

Heracross is a beast pokemon though, regardless Absol's Aeriel Ace would massacre it.

Absol is faster than Hera.

Plus due to lack of reasonable items to give Absol, I'm thinking of either quick claw or focus band. Either I attack first thanks to Quick Claw, or Hang on at 1 HP with Focus Band, which will allow me to attack and kill Hera on the event Hera attacks first. But that is depending on luck. >.<

Edit: just checked, Hera has slightly faster speed. But I get Absol with Jolly nature, so he will outrun Heracross unless Hera has a Speed Benefiting nature as well.

Read my ninja edit.

My Absol has Jolly nature. Unless your Hera has Speed benifiting nature as well, Absol attacks first.

Oh, Now I remember what to do when training Absol! DOH!

Well if both pokemon get to level 50 or 100, my Absol will still have more speed thanks to Jolly nature, than a non speed Heracross.

How strange. Why do you have Confusion, Psybeam and Psychic on Kadabra when they are kinda like improved versions of each other?
