A little churlish, don't you think? The history forum is visited by people with an interest in history and some may be looking for more specialised discussion than can be found here- a predominantly gaming site.

This is not a threat to the existance of this site, or using the forums as advertising boards. An honest query such as this one could surely be accommodated with no threat to CivFanatics, couldn't it?

I wonder if it's not an issue with loopholes? People will do some funny things to get their free advertising with a thin veneer of innocence. But I do agree, this request sure seemed innocent enough...

It's rather strange, he's running a site dedicated to modern history himself (see link in his sig), so he doesn't have to find one, he has already created one himself!
But I don't think he meant to plug his site, he obviously is just very interested in modern history and wants to find more people with the same interest. :)

Current news, current events, current and recent politcs, etc, is off topic in the history forum. You guys want to see a dozen ME threads pop up there every time someone mentions what happend in the area 3000 years ago?

And the offical policy for advertising posters sites is that it may only be done in signatures, not in posts, Except for civ related site which may be posted and described and discussed in the "other civ related sites forums. To this policy the moderators may make exceptions (see the smac forum for some) for site that perform useful game related fuctions not covered here. Also we sometime have official link threads for the games, for those poor benight posters incapable of finding the the link for the main site page.

...and of course an exception for Thunderfall to Randomnly plug other sites wherever he pleases.:crazyeye:
