Poll: A new sci-fi mod that I'm interested in working on; community interest?

Would you like the idea of being involved in an extensive sci-fi mod?

I think someone should do a Warhammer 40k mod. That'd be freaking awesome... all the civs, units, concept art and backstory are already there, just requires coding and adapting the images to the right format.

WH40K Battlefleet Gothic mod ;) that would be the combination of both of your ideas :D

That would be nice but I'd prefer to make something original ;)

If you don't mind someone who disappear for weeks/months, doesn't always do what he said he'd do, only does what he consider fun (pretty much just SDK stuff not involving graphics in any way) and has his own (small) project that still hasn't been updated after months of working on it (more or less - mostly less), sure, I'm in :p

Same here. Except that I deal less with SDK and more with python. I still don't do graphics, except occasionally borrowing something directly from other mods (mostly AoI). Even then I sometimes mess up.

I cant mod my way out of a paper bag, although i have started thinking of learning... Basically i will be happy to playtest and contribute ideas.

That would be cool! Any ideas are welcome. Look at the main thread I've posted in the creation and customisation forum! :)

See, for a 40K mod I'd probably do it colonization style... maybe spin the backstory as the discovery of some super planet? Maybe call it an Eldar Maidenworld... the greatest of all the Maidenworlds, kept a total secret, until now. Suddenly the different factions are all trying to set up shop.

So really it'd be more similar to FFH than Final Frontier, just that it'd have a sci-fi theme to it. Many, many units, very unique... fun stuff like, say, Eldar require techs for each different aspect, and need to build a shrine to that aspect as a required building in order to build that type of aspect warrior... and aspect warriors would be able to upgrade into Exarchs at lvl 6+. Stuff like that. It'd be good times.

I would love to see a good sci-fi mod. Maybe you could include elements of SMAC. I remember seeing talk of making a SMAC based MOD but I don't think it ever got off the ground.

I never actually played Alpha Centauri... but if you have any ideas then post on my main thread :)

Any input is welcome... I'm working mainly on the tech tree atm so that will grow larger before I mess about with other components :)

You missed out, it was great. If you can get a cheap copy (try eBay), the expansion pack is available as abandonware from a few places. It has a bunch of really neat ideas, some excellent flavour (though the 'story' is a little generic) especially in the tech splashes and wonder movies, good voice work, what should have been a great unit design mechanic but which kinda became annoying and some regrettably poor AI. For anyone who's clearly a fan of both Civ and SF I'd say it was a must.

What's abandonware? Does that mean I could get the expansion for free?

I have the original Alpha Centauri CD somewhere at home, but have never tried the expansion.
