I have been lurking around for a while (and even posting occasionally). I haven’t seen a poll like this, but if it has been run recently, feel free to flame at will. :)

I am running on a fairly antiquated system (at least by computer standards :D ), and I am having very few bugs, except for the late-game-slowdown-on-huge-maps problem  . I have seen all kinds of threads with people complaining about the game, how it doesn’t work, how they can’t run the game at all, how Firaxis shouldn’t come out with the XP since the vanilla game doesn’t work, etc. But I also noticed that the same names seem to show up on these threads over and over. I am not trying to offend these people. I feel for those people, because I know there frustration at not being able to play a game to lots of others seem to be enjoying. I have experienced similar problems with other games.

The goal of the poll is to find out the following: Are we listening to the VERY vocal, very small minority, or are most people have troubles with the game. This is a chance for the few happy and/or very quiet to let their opinions be heard.

FYI: I don’t play MP, so my vote is ‘Very few or no bugs’

We have actually had a number of polls on this subject, and it would be nice if one of them actually made it beyond a couple of hundred votes so we had a better sample. So far they've been very consistent at 3-5% have unplayable games, and about another 15% with significant problems, but can still play the game.

I made the last one of these polls with a similar intention, but it sank after a couple of hundred votes, maybe I'll dredge it up again...

You must not think that this poll will be representable for the entire civilization community. As with any polls, there are some problems:

1) People who are having problems with this game want to be heard. So a larger percentage of this group thinks that taking the time to vote in this poll is worth it.
2) Some people who have huge problems with this game might not play it anymore and thus also not come to this website in order to vote.
3) Only a small percentage of the 1 million people who have bought the game visit this fansite. So you only getting votes from a certain type of player, namely the one that visits fansites.

Which of the above effects is larger is difficult to say, but they will effect the outcome of the poll.

It would be nice if a vote in a poll moved the thread back up in the list. Now only a post in the thread will do that.

ah nice, now the poll option shows up.

I voted for few bugs.

I've seen a few crop up from time to time, units running accross the screen, some minor graphics blacking out, and of course teh crashing on the huge huge maps.

but thats about it.

That's OK. I understand that this is a small percentage of the CIV community. Mostly I am trying to understand how the people who frequent this site are enjoying the game. IOW, What percentage of people coming here are have a lot of problems. Mostly, how much of a minority is the vocal minority. ;)

The patch really helped things out a lot. I was getting to a point where I wasn't interested in playing because of all the bugs. Now it seems to be working fine. A few minor glitches, that's about it.

Its been rock solid for me since the day I bought it... which was release day. The patch did speed things up a little though.

Edit: I only play SP

It depends on what you'd call a few bugs. I only have a few problems with the game, but they're pretty major ones, like being over the recommended specs in every category but getting 20 minute waits while it processes a turn at the end of my games.
It's not really even a bug, I suppose, but it certainly slows the game down. I've got through 3 books in the course of 2 months' Civ playing and I even cook dinner while the turns are processed.

Since I bought my new core duo Asus laptop with ATI x1600 with 256MB mem (+256 virtual on top), I haven't had many problems.

Still, after a long game session the game sometimes crashes and claims that it ran out of video memory...

I have yet to finish a game (I only play on the huge map with lots of opponents) because the late-game crashes are too bad. I learned that by saving every turn, before and after the turn, and turning everything off before I play means I get about an hour of play in before the game shuts off, then I have to do it all over again.

So I've gone back to Civ III until Warlords.

Nothing new to add really, just want this thread to stay near the top so more people will vote on it. :mischief:

Insteresting that at this point, 80% have no significant problems.

Edit: NM

I have some problems with CIV because of the computer.

(1) Late game slowdown and (2) units going round the world the wrong way when attacking across the seam are the only things that I have seen. I voted for very few bugs.

I'm basically stuck with OCC on small maps - anything else bogs down, may crash on quick saves, and has this really horrible thing that happens where the diplomacy screen overflows a buffer or something and it takes 10min just to close out the game and restart it...
