Having read Sulla's walkthrough the Arabs look cool.

It could also be fun launching Jihad later in the game against all those Americans I'm sure to meet in MP...

Originally, I thought I would play the Buddhist Indians. Now I'm wondering if, to become better acquainted with the new mechanics, it would be better to start off with a more warlike tribe.

Possibly the Aztecs, which I would just have to make Christian. (Christ sacrificed his life for you... now it's time to return the favor. Bwa ha ha...)

wow looks like Romans/Americans/germans are the top 3 in the poll. Everyone wants to be the romans so they dont have to face them, same deaal with me and the americans would rather play them than face them.

Germany it is. I find that the unique historic geographical position in the Centre of relatively populated Europe yields most challenges while at the same time being the most rewarding: From start on one is constantly on the brink of war, research and/or expansion to be able to withstand the surrounding oponents. Until the very end of the game, Germany needs a careful mix of both active diplomacy and a strong army.

Though this poll suggests most people go Roman and American, German culture has the benefit of having spanned from the antique untill today, while the Roman one is historicaly interrupted with the Fall of Rome and over a thousand years of assendancy of minor Italic peoples over that of the former Roman Empire. America has the same historical problem: The USA are a very young state, and it feels weird encountering them in the antique. Also do they have no enemies but a huge landmass to settle and thrive- no challenge, no fun- just my 2 cents...

I cant believe they took out the Zulu, and the Babylonians. Those were always my starting tribes. I will miss Shaka and Hamurabi. I think I will go with Japanese or Persians

I will play the Celts.

Oh wait the celts aren't in Civ 4 - has no one read how the irsih saved civilization?

have we not seen braveheart? do we not know guiness?

I'm a Greek fan through and through. Alexander and I shall rule the world!!! Muahaha!

Well I loved the Chinese in the original Civ (I think) because you got 2 Settlers. Lesson here is don't base your choices on what was good in CivIII.

I'm going to play as someone who is spiritual, that's all I know for now. I think I'm going to try to grab as many religions as I can.

I would really like to play with Alexander The Great :king: but in this game he is "Greek".That is a clear violation of history.
Alexander was Macedonian (not Greek) so it should be a Macedonian Civ not Greek.
Some question about this matter can be found on the web site:

I hope that I haven't affended any1 but the truth has to be told.

Im going for the Aztecs ,because from the first part of CIV , i always start the first game with the Aztecs. I think it's because of the nice background music :)

Yeah and Queen Victoria was German. So what? You expect Americans to know history?
