well because i am german i will first choose german and then i don't know so far i will decide when i start the game then. ;)

You gotta go with the Incans first. I mean, come on, read about them. Even though they might not be the best civ to play, I gotta represent cause of their culture.

With the new religion feature, you would think they would include all the countries in which the religion either developed or the first nation to make it the state religion. For Taoism you have China, for Christianity you have Rome, for Hinudism you have India and so on. The list is complete except for Judaism. There is no Israel on the list. That would be a fun to play the role of that nation. What would be their special unit? A Zealot perhaps? Or a golem lol

Good thing the game is easily modifiable.

But since there is no Israel, I'll go with Germany to reflect my heritage.

The Inca 100% sure. They had a great empire and if the spanish would have attacked them a few years earlier or later, they would still exist. I am going to correct that error and kill the Spanish how have been so not nice to so much people, including my own country(The Netherlands) but since the Dutch aren't in Civ IV (yet i hope), and I HATE Aztec it's going to be the inca

Americans, Germans and Romans seem to be easily leading the poll, almost double the rest.

The intersting question is why?

Is it because a) Most civ players are American or b) Most civ players identify the Roman Empire as the original civ or c) Most civ players are a black hearted sadistic lot who try to emulate the Third Reich, get as close to fascism in the civics as possible, blitzkrieg everyone to death with panzers and finally nuke everything in sight?

or d) all of the above?

Having read most of the threads in CFC I think we are not a sophisticated lot.

Hi all -
I always played Rome or Greece in Civ 2 & 3. I started my first game and went 5 rounds with the Romans. Just didn't get my goat. So quit and played the French. That was ok, but I guess it wasn't satisfying. Something about it just made me want to smoke (I don't).
So I really read about the different civ's and their leaders and which leader is good for what and which benefit they have. I wanted something that I felt I could use and would allow me to follow how I felt Civ 4 should be played for me.
It was a toss up with the Americans (GW) and Japan.

Be Well.

Lol, actually I used Russia first, and I just imagined I was the USSR and was in this cold war with everyone. Researched communism, tried to spread my "culture," and later on nuked everyone who wasn't on my side.

On my second game I played as the Germans for the reasons listed above, tried to do a blitzkrieg, ended up going to war against almost every other civilization on the continent, and got wiped out a few turns later. Sometime it can be fun to play as the bad guys. :P

Big, old Mother Russia. Two leaders, good voices with no accent, great history that`s well enough. Why am I need smth else? Undoubtful problem of choice to players whoever lived in Union.

I always play Germany... hate the language but love their country. :p

Why do you hate our language? Ok it is hard to learn and to participate (spell right?) but i like it.

And I play German the first time I play this game. :goodjob:

Arabians. In fact, already played it!

I'm already looking forward to the expansions-- I'm anxious to see what other civs they'll include. Whether we'll see more of the same from the prior Civ 3 expansions, or some new things.

I usually play the French. I'll probably try Napoleon first!

I don't think I've ever played a civ besides Russia, France, Germany or India.... I guess you just get in the habit of playing the same civs, and it's hard to choose a different one.

ha ha! Yes, the language is hard to learn. I'm learning; I love the way it sounds spoken, but due to the difficult grammar, I think I have a ways to go before fluency :)

It seems strange on the polls that no one wants to be any of the oldest civs which they offer e.g. the Inca, Aztecs and all those Middle-Eastern nations :p People only want to choose the nations which have been considered in recent history as very powerful. I dunno if it's just because I'm not American and I'm not all patriotic but I never really liked using America...

Anyway! I think I would choose to be Chinese first to follow my heritage :D (Ok so maybe I'm being a bit hippocritical).

If you go strictly by Empires, you could say that Persia was the first Ancient Empire with an unpersecuted Jewish population, and Persia went on to have the largest population of Jews in the Middle East outside of Israel.

But yeah, I hope in the expansion, they have Jewish Civ and Celtic Civ :)

Armenia was the first Christian state...
