Polls

Now why would they want to do that? The mods here have better things to do than to mess around with polls to skew them in their 'favour'.

Seriously, if you have an issue (like a real example) with it, you can take it up with the highest authority in CFCdom, TF himself. ;) In private.

Well, if they do that it's an abuse of power.

The only time I see mods change votes is when a poll is silly -- mods sometimes change the votes to something like 9999 then close those polls.

Edit Poll ability is necessary because moderators sometimes receive requests to add more options to exisitng polls or change poll questions.

Here is the edit poll screen...

:)

(Maybe I should have changed the vote to 67 for the "Ren living in the past" option. :D)

It might be useful for a bad poll in Off Topic. ;)

Plus, it's main use is in the Demogame when someone forgets the Abstain option.

Why would mods want to tweak the poll to 9999 votes and then close it? Seems to me pretty silly like what Thunderfall said.

If it's a spam/obscene/flame/stupid/immature poll, they do that.

Example:

Is this spam?

Yes - 9999
Yes - 9999

Also to cover up on all the votes casted previously I think. ;)

Yes...i.e. if someone started a poll asking if lefty was the worst mod ever...we all know the answer is of course no but if a couple of disgruntled users had voted yes we wouldn't want it to stand..the poll would say somethign like "Is user A banned"

yes 9999
yes 9999

Mostly it's for adding new options and fixing technical errors.

Yeah, I'm sure that you'd need to use that especially in the OT board where people here have said about the overabudence of spammy polls in OT.

It would be pretty silly to change a poll number to support a postion, I would think.

I only add or change options at the starter's request, or to correct really bad spelling, and sometimes to remove innapropreate poll questions from an otherwise OK poll.

But I really don't care what the poll numbers are.

When the poll choices constituteflames or trolling, we edit the votes to 0 and add a field something like "malefactor troller who posted this should be banned for 7 days 21,000 votes."
or "we love the rules here 19000 votes".

If a Mod did change a poll would it matter? Most polls are really not very important and will probably appear again in the next few months.

With all these hurdles to add or delete options on the polls wouldn't it be easier to let the starter of the poll edit the options him/herself? Like editing posts themselves. The settings allow users to edit their own posts; could it be done with the polls?

The poll is not a "part" of the first post and is not indexed to a particular poster. It may not be not be able to be set to be edited by one person of the poster user class.

I would like to see the editing of polls results ended in the Democracy Game. Not that I don't trust eyrei and Shaitan, I just am scared by this aspect, especially in the recent election, when they openly expressed support for one candidate over another.

But what if the person changed polls in their favor? (I'm really not worried about the moderators doing this for their own personal gain- they're under scrutiny all the time anyhow. :ack: )

I have a different question about polls.

Why are the percentages in multiple-choice polls calculated wrong?

For a made-up example, let's say I ask which animals people like, with the options Cats, Dogs, Monkeys, Birds. Three people vote, two for both Cats and Dogs, the other for all of them. The percentages SHOULD be:
Cats 100%
Dogs 100%
Monkeys 33%
Birds 33%

But the way the goofy mathematics of CFC works, the percentages will be:
Cats 25%
Dogs 25%
Monkeys 12.5%
Birds 12.5%

Please, someone fix this.

Oops, Cats and Dogs would each get 37.5%. Still wrong, though.

Really it would probably have been better to start a new thread as people read the start of threads and might get confused and make a rush post etc.

I don't mind the present system as there is a separate column that shows the amountof votes each option has.
