Pollution system

Has anyone figured out how the pollution system works? How much pollution does it take from the normal level to become high (yellow to red, then the blossoming icon) and how much does it take to have a global warming situation?
AND,
can this be adjusted anywhere in the rules.txt or such files?

In your status bar, right next to the little glass that gets filled as you get closer to discovering your next science. What you get to much pollution there is this little other thing that goes from yellow to red as Global heating get's closer.

But how much and for how long? I have no idea!

Yeah it puzzles me too, I always used to think that the symbol represented how many pollution sqaures there were but if you are really industrialised you can have no pollution squares but still a pollution symbol. What I think the symbol is, is a reflection of how many pollution hazards you have in your cities because as you build recycling centres etc the pollution symbol seems to die back down.

Anyone ever had Global Warming? About three times for me I reckon.

Global warming happens to me all the time. I hate it. I was lookin for a way to disable it or smthng. You guys sure there isn't any possibility to adjust this feature?

The only way I know to avoid GL is clean the polution as soon as it appears.

I've noticed that when the situation is out of control, GL comes about 20 turns later......
