PolyCast Episode 200 Recording May 24th Featuring Firaxis Games

Some info from the stream

- They have "nothing to be discussed" about any future patches for Civ 5, but they say they're always looking for things to improve

- Each affinity-based victory condition involves waiting for something to happen, often; for Harmony, you must build a World Wonder and wait a while for it to work (building a certain thing in your cities makes it faster). For Supremacy, you build a portal to Earth and send military units through it for a while; for Purity, you build the same portal, but bring settlers through it and protect them from other factions.

- The aliens for the Contact victory will be called the Firaxians. There is undeniable proof of this.

- There were also some small comments, like using the orbital layer to screw with your enemies and such, but nothing else big that I can remember.

posted in wrong thread before, ez

Edit for anyone that cares: TERRAFORMING CONFIRMED, HYPE

The currency will be energy, not gold.

Religion won't be the same as previous civs, since it would constrict it to earthly themes.

Satellites can remove miasma (my asthma hue)

The resources, like luxeries etc, have not been finished since they are prone to being removed for balanced issues.

Your affinity choice will push your down a separate part of the techweb

Bad bad bad.... "Currency" should just be trade
If energy is in, it should be part of production.

Maybe they can find a way to make it work (production buildings...and some others have high maintenance costs...massive power plants let you turn resources into extra money)

Maybe trade routes give you production or happiness directly.

Good, (although it would be nice to know what it Is rather than what it is not)

Dennis Shirk strongly implied that religion is not in the game. He said it either "wouldn't fit in" or "doesn't fit in" or something to that effect, and that its function is essentially taken by affinities. Though he didn't explicitly say it's completely out.

That's strange given
1. the mention of pilgrims for a faith bonus
2. The mention of particular factions as being weak or strong in religion

It could be that he is saying religion(s) as non factional entities that spread effects are not present even if faith (faith in affinities or fath in your faction) is.

I believe the devs have occasionally mentioned "faith" as a mechanic, in passing, and that as a result certain journalists interpreted there would be religions, assuming them a direct consequence of said mechanic.

Affinities are the philosophical pseudo-religions of the game, and that's been said more than once. In all likelihood, faith is directly related to them in some way.

That is my guess.
Faith-Affinities like Tourism-Ideologies
Although I hope there is also a "faith in your faction" factor/mechanic.

Questions for Firaxis Games not answered on PolyCast #200 will be reviewed for answering on a future episode of the show. The Firaxians were on the show for about 40 minutes, and there was a number of inquiries that there was not time to get to.

Thanks again to all who contributed and were able to listen to the recording of the show live today. The post-produced version is to be released in a week's time.
