PolyCast Episode 71: "Make Some Noise"

I might suggest looking at the strategy and tips and HoF subsections too. I don't know how many of those players you've contacted, but some of the best players around are on those two subforums and many give great insights into the game. HoF is entering discussion with how the hall of fame tables should be displayed and whether the ban on inca should be lifted/retained also...and a lot of debate over game speed (aka marathon is rigged ).

Yes I am expressing interest, I have both Skype and Audacity, I've even edited on it.
Consider yourself added to the potential guest co-host list. :)

It just seems like a really fun show, I've been listening to it ever since I saw that post about the Episode "Girls talking about Civ" and I've been hooked ever since. Though I am still working my way up to the current episodes I'm on 62 I think.

It's always satisfying to learn of listeners who have continued to stick with the show once they came across it, and even more so when they start going through productions prior too!

Yes, my considerations have taken those forums into account as well to date. I intend to continue to do so as well.

Sounds like some good future topics.

Well, I not only couldn't restrain myself from listening to it last night - just couldn't get to sleep until I did - but I even managed to get online again today for a moment to write this post!

I must say, WOW! I didn't think you'd get the show down to under an hour and a half, and you got it to half THAT! The total recording time was about 3 hrs for those who are curious about that kind of thing. That doesn't mean we were interesting all that time, but it's amazing how much didn't make the cut. Now I have a vague idea what TV show and movie editors go through. So everybody give Dan a round of applause for his great editing!

I won't have to sort out the bagel debate for you guys, because I won't have to throw any. I will say, though, that properly-buttered cinnamon-raisen bagels are "teh awsum!"

You know it's interesting how the "well" the computer plays Monty that so many want to wipe him out the moment they see him. Yet the computer doesn't seem to play the Incan's or Mayan's all that well. I'm currently playing a Warlord level game and in the process of destroying the Incan's. Which is something I can usually do.

Inca and Maya are both frequently 1800's culture win threats on higher levels, although it's true that they tend to be weak militarily (low unit probs and strategies that don't emphasize it).

Shaka is way worse than Monty :p. Genghis Khan is probably worse too. The AI makes very sad use of SPI.

That is true since Capac has a real love of building all the pretty World Wonders he can. Pacal, I don't know what his strategy is alot of the time when the rest of the civs have like 3-4 cities he's still sitting pretty with his single capital city. Maybe it's just the bad luck starts for him that have allowed me to pretty much just rush in and crush him every time.

Pacal tends to be small but he'll whore religions and using them can often get enough :culture: multipliers to become a legit culture threat. Usually easy to deal with unless he turns into someone's vassal or somehow gets HUGE (he'd practically have to spawn walling someone off or alone on a non-isolated sub continent)

Well, technically speaking, you're better qualified than I was when I appeared. I had a devil of a time trying to upload uncompressed files..
You don't need to be an advanced level player. Offering a good question can be as important as offering a good answer. It is a lot of fun to do. Just remember to keep your schedule clear that morning, and hot beverages make your throat and the tone of your voice relaxed, iced beverages make your throat tight and your voice sound stressed.

Yeah Pacal's Civ has Bonus for health through his trait and :) through his UB so I can see how well he can expand. So it's probably good to get rid of him in the begining, which I've done to him twice now.

Yeah Rusty I like drinking hot tea when doing podcasting, really helps.

Thanks for the kind words, Jim. :cooool:

While there was a lot left on the 'cutting room floor', so to speak, that is typical for a PolyCast episode. However, that the recording session for this episode was ~3 hours has not been typical since early in its second season. Further, 3 other topics were fully edited and archived from this episode for future use. Not only is that amount atypical, but so too is the length of those topics combined: a bit over 18 minutes. There was also some other assorted clip cuts that I saved, amounting to almost 7 minutes.
