Falling under the influence. The eighty-third episode of PolyCast is now netcasting. "Too Tempting" features regular co-hosts Daniel "DanQ" Quick, Makahlua and Philip "TheMeInTeam" Bellew with returning guest co-hosts Samo "Heraclitus" Burja, Stewart "MMC" Rice, Adam "Peachrocks" Ferguson" and Lisa "qnl" with first-time guest co-host Camikaze.

The summary of topics is as follows:

- 01m27s | Forum Talk
On observations and reflections of the Religion system in Civilization IV, and what about a least favourite Civic per civilization leader.
- 28m28s | Research Lab
Having siege capabilities attached to units as opposed to being separate units themselves in the Civ series.

- Intro/Outro | Miscellaneous
No apparent practice for a greeting.

PolyCast is a bi-weekly audio production in an ongoing effort to give the Civ community an interactive voice on game strategy; this is its second last episode of the season, with a composite of archived segments to comprise its last. Sibling show ModCast focuses on Civ modding and RevCast focuses on Civilization: Revolution.

As always, enjoy.

I liked this episode, very good discussion on changing Religious and Siege dynamics. I do find that Civs that found religions do tend to do well so I would agree if another civ founded a religion and got a shrine it would be a good idea to take them out. I've just seen too much benefit with Religion to completely ignore it, I think it's entirely possible to spread a religion and still make a strong army. Afterall it only takes one Missionary to spread a religion and you can only build three at a time as is. The Shrine alone is worth having a Holy city even if you don't found that religion first. Add in the SM, AP, UoS, and I can see how you say it can be a "run away". So I do think the idea there should be trouble from having multiple religions in a city may help with that.

The talk of the Siege engines sounded more powerful to me, I would love to injure units without killing them!

I feel I have to apologise for feeling like the offspring of a goldfish and a sieve during the recording of this episode. A lot went over my head.

So naturally I thought of something in the last week that I failed to mention during the least favourite civic section. There was a thread in Ideas & Suggestions a few weeks ago called Civ V: Manifestos, which basically proposed that more ideology be installed in the game, and implemented similarly to how religions are currently implemented. I think it's an idea worth consideration.

The link for the "least favourite Civic" goes to the same place as the link for "observations and reflections" (the religion topic).
:o -- corrected. Good catch... I appreciate your noting it.

Did you listen to the show? :)

:king:

Even without the shrine, the takeover drive over say another that does not have a religion (of their own and/or spread yet) is stronger so long as they are reasonably accessible.

No argument here at all.

Afterall it only takes one Missionary to spread a religion and you can only build three at a time as is.
Further, short of WorldBuilder or modding 'proper', only having three Missionaries active on the map for any given religion at any given time.

The Shrine alone is worth having a Holy city even if you don't found that religion first.
If you take over the Holy City, then indeed.

No worries.

Ahhh -- a good addendum to the discussion. :)

Aw man, now that I see the topic, I'm doubly grief-stricken that I couldn't be available to be part of this episode!
Which topic in particular?

In any event, hopefully we'll be able to get you on the show again sooner rather than later still.
