This is the most pathetic location/situation that an AI ever had.
The world is at the end of the MI, and rome hasn`t invented the wheel yet.
I have often seen poor AIs on crappy islands, but that beats everything

And here I was thinking that the map generator always put its start locations in areas where the city could grow to size 3 at least...

What difficulty is this? One would have thought they would at least trade with others...

It`s monarch level.
I guess they can`t trade because they have absolutely nothing of value. No gold, no res (even if AIs would trade a ressource they have only a single quantity of, they are far from even knowing what salpeter is) and no tech that anyone would be interested in.
They haven`t even discovered the wheel - not that they could drive anywhere anyway... :p

Behold the Romans - the only civilization ever to invent the dumper truck (for removing the sand ;)) before the wheel!

Oh wait...

At a mid difficulty level, a human player would have had at least a chance. By moving the settler 2 tiles south the 1st city would have been coastal and with a decent growth. The 2nd city would have been devoted to build the lightouse...

BTW, really a horrible location.
