I've had Civ 4 since the first week it came out and it's run without any problems so far, both pre- and post-patch. Recently I noticed that the leader heads are messed up on my system. There're weird whites on the tops of the eyes. Here's a screen shot:

I didn't think much of it, except today when I started a game, my system froze when the opening video started to play, and required a hard restart. After the restart the game ran fine, but still with the weird eye problem.

Does anyone know what might be causing this problem? The only thing I can think of is maybe an installed codec is creating problems? I'm not too tech savvy so this is just a stab in the dark. Any thoughts, guys?

Move your texture settings up one notch.

I live with the evil eyes because the low res textures seems to give slightly better performance.

It might be not be a texture setting. I have all graphic settings at low. I saw this when I moved them all from medium to low.

I think it is an ingame glitch with certain graphics cards. I don't think it is related to the freezeup. I have the same problem but the game has never froze like that. If it's really bugging you, there is a mod that reduces leaderhead textures in creation and customization section on this site. If you continue to have freezeups, post your dxdiag here and one of the more techsavvy guys should be able to help you.

I had my texture settings on high so that wasn't it. I uninstalled and re-installed the game and that fixed it but I'm not sure what caused it.

The leaderheads aren't Bink videos. That's full-blown 3D.

I'm not sure it's a problem. When the leader mood is "Cautious", their expression changes. Maybe this was an attempt to give the leader a suspicious look. Anyway, I get that too or something like it.

Its better than the floating eyeballs and teeth glitch I used to get. That was creepy. Not complaining much about this one.
