Possibly a dumb question but... Multiple civics?

I have seen this referenced some places but can you have multiple civics ongoing at once? I am figuring you only have one at a time.

Goto civics advisor and pick one out of the column, and you can have up to 5 going at once since theres 5 columns...

You actually have 5 going all at once since the start of game, just that the first 5 don't do anything... They'll eventually cost you money though, so even if you don't want the effects, things like Free Speech is free during late game... Instead of "low maintenence" for the defaults...

Oh duh.. okay so you can use anywhere from 1 to 5 going at once? Obviously only 1 from each type right?

You have to pick one civic from each of 5 categories. Of course at the beginning you only know one civic from each category so you're stuck with them. As you learn more techs you have more options.

You always have five civics running at any given point. The question is which five can you pick (they open up based on techs (and wonders)) and which five will you pick. But even on turn one, you have 5 civics running. It's just that the five you start with kinda blow (but they're cheap!).
