Since applying the 1.09 patch when it was released, I have been finding that I can play for no longer than an hour before things begin to become sluggish.

This was a gradual thing though, as at first I was able to play an entire day at 1680x1050, but after about 3 days I had to drop my resolution down to 1024x768 at this is at the start of a new game.

I have manually clean the cache, I have even defragged the drive, removed any dead and temp files not needed, but I am finding that I cannot play for the same amount of time as I did when I had the un-patched version.

Also, not sure if this is something related, but I noticed that the Civ4 process uses 5GB of memory, no that is not a mis-type it is actually 5GB.

From this I can only assume that half of my 1GB of RAM is being used for the process, and the rest is coming from the swap file.

Could you post your current specs. Map size you're playing? In any case, 5GB sounds way too much on any game setting. Don't know what's going on there. I've seen on other threads for Large/Huge maps the RAM requirements is around 800Mb on the lowest resolutions and low graphics settings.

I am running a scenario Earth which I believe is a huge map.

The specs of my system are: P4-3.4Ghz, 1GB RAM, ATI x600 256MB video running the game now at 1024x768.

The system has a swap file of 1.5GB.

Just tried the mem-fix. There is some improvement, at leastnow I can play for a lot longer, and can also build much larger armies without the game slowing to a crawl again.

When exiting the game, I did notice that the Desktop return much quicker than it used to.
