Post a late game save, for testing?

Could somebody who has played up to 2050 or whatever on a Huge map with a lot of civs and has the whole world revealed please post a saved game for it?

I have just got the game but to preempt any disappointment, I'd like to be able to test that my (ageing) system could handle it (or not).

Surely this would also be useful for other people to test for memory leaks etc.?

If my system can't cope with it, I think I'd rather wait for a patch, than crawl along at 2 fps. :crazyeye:

Thanks.

Couldn't anyone spare 30 seconds to do this please?

Or perhaps the game is so bugged that nobody is actually capable of achieving this feat?

That is a problem that many people are experiencing.

Yea - after 1900 the game is pretty much theoretical. :crazyeye: Mine seems to crash alot after that. Don't have any saved games left for you - but I'll post when I get that far again.

Hi emalherbe,

Thanks for your help. I managed to get a save from Venger here:

What you said about the game becoming 'theoretical' is exactly what I was afraid of and is backed up by loading the saved game that Venger posted. The whole game became a slideshow here. Despite the lack of CTDs or BSODs and other bugs if what's in store later in the game is as bad as this then I don't want to know. I'll be taking the game back for a refund.

I didn't pay good money for a game concept! A game that isn't playable isn't a game as far as I'm concerned.

If I wanted a good idea I would have bought a book instead.

Go into options and play around with settings. Lower graphics, turn off "show friendly moves" and such. Should make a big difference if you get the right settings.

Your video card is getting old, so you have to make adjustments for newer games. Just like you shouldn't take a spearman to the gun fight, you shouldn't take a yugo to a drag race (and expect to win). ;)

Yes, you're right about the dated graphics card, :) but I've seen other posts where people have 3Ghz+ CPUs and 6600 GTs complaining about the snail's pace too. ;)

Did you try that save too btw?

If so, how did it work for you and what are your computer specs?

Don't border, I have P4 3.2 GHz, 1024GB RAM, and Geforce 6800 Ultra and I get maybe 10 fps with the 1000 AD world map scenario. This game seriously has some big performance issues as well as (possible) memory leaks.

Thanks joelzh, and commiserations too!

A 6800 Ultra and 3.2 GHz P4 producing a measly 10 fps is just not acceptable. :nuke:

Anyone who wants to see my 1961 year save (all teches are open, ~20% of huge world is mine), please mail me. Consumes about 620Mb on my 512Mb system. I'd like to know if system with more RAM will consume more memory.

Hi Harkonnen,

I have 1 Gb of RAM and your save ate all the available RAM leaving just 15 Mb or so for the rest of the system, plus another 1.2 Gb of virtual memory!

After pressing enter for another turn the game started to use up even more virtual memory and eventually just stopped responding altogether.

What a heap of garbage this Civ IV is!

I'm glad I dislike Huge maps in general, then. I play on default size, and it runs perfectly.
