Heya,
speaking about suggestions: What I'd really love to see is some kind of post apocalyptic gameplay. Even cooler than a seperate mod like the one for Civ IV would be to implement the apocalypse in the game itself.
What I mean with that is following:
Depending on the developement of the world the modern era could end and result in either a "normal" Future or a Dystopia (Mad Max, Fallout).
Civ4 already worked with Global Warming, it should be possible to push this even further.
Depending on the pollution through Cities and the use of nuclear weapons the condition of the world could become worse and worse resulting in a total collapse, resulting in a nuclear winter for example.
Gameplay wise the collapse or the world (the apocalypse) could work as a kind of soft reset. Meaning: The world dries and dies out, cities shrink or vanish completely from the surface with each turn which is ended during the apocalypse. Maybe new babarian units (mutations) appear if you like a little "fantasy", revolting cities maybe become independent/babaric/citiy states and so on
This could be a great tactical option for smaller nations to stop bigger (and/or winning ones) from completing and winning the game, bringing themselves back into business by pushing the red button throwing everyone back into the middle ages (not technology wise, see below).
I am not sure what is possible in the Civ5 engine/editor, but I guess it should be possible to split future tech trees into Dystopia(Post Apocalypse) and Non-Dystopia.
Making it impossible to research non-dystopia technologies as soon as the world "collapsed". Combining technologies like to build a space ship with a world condition "non-dystopia" would disable it as soon as the apocalypse is in place, together with other technologies we don't want to see there anymore (like farms and so on).
Of course this would be a huge amount of work, but I think it would also give the game additional tactical possibilities.
What do you think about a mod like this extending the future?
