Hey guys,

after the last patch I started a new game on huge and still get the late game crashes.

Then I downloaded the new Service Pack 1 for Windows 7 32-bit and like to know if this will make any difference before I waste my time for a new game.

Does anyone have experiences on this?

Before you start a new game, you should also make sure you have the latest drivers for your sound card, graphics card etc.

I've seen some people reporting that it fixed their crashes.

I don't know if the SP1 will make a difference for sure though.

According to a recent post from Sirian, playing a game on a huge map is pretty much guaranteeing that you'll run into memory-related issues. The main problem is that steam is 32bit and so civ5 is as well (forgive my very poor paraphrasing which is technically not accurate). Large mapsize is about the largest that can be recommended to play.

Then again, his post was mainly in relation to the Terra mapscript, which makes bigger maps than other mapscripts.

The posts I refer to:

Well worth reading those...

Thanks for the link to the two posts.

Another question: Recently, I´ve read that the tesselation option in the hardware configuration of Civ 5 should be set to low. I´m still using it on medium.

Does this really make a big difference? A few minutes ago I started a large earth map ... but it does not make fun at all, because the distances, especially in Europe, are too small :(

I'm not too sure. I gather you might have followed the link in my sig to Kael's post/s.

I'm not sure if the engine has changed or the way it interacts with video drivers has changed since that advice was given.

I have the same problem on Windows XP. I'll load up a game go about 10 turns and then CtD every time. I'm playing on a standard sized map though.
