Post Your Ship Designs

Winter you have got to upload those designs. One large file and then some updates for your continual design upgrades. When I say "have got" I don't really mean you are required, but so many people want them. You just can't let down all these wimpering fans. With all the inspiration you have caused, it would be great if we could just edit your designs. Please upload these soon.

W.I.N.T.E.R.

My God.

Your designs are Awesome.
Incredible.
Genius.
Beautiful.
Inspiring.
And Sophisticated.
And you are the :king: of all ship designs that I've seen so far.

Could you please post your designs so we can play with 'em? I don't even wanna redo them in the editor, they're an UNTOUCHABLE for me.

P.S. If I were to post feed-back on your ships in terms of which I like best, I'd say you're original designs for the ships (especially the Troja and the ORIGINAL Tarasque class, they're absolutely INCREDIBLE, if you just released those two classes I would be happy :D ) were better, but that's just my opinion.

P.S.S. Looking around at the other ship designs in here, many of you look like you have good potential. Keep it up. You're all doing very good.

whoa sweet

Couple of mine (I feel compelled to point out I did the Texas below before I found this forum. Coming here, I got a kick out of the fact that Winter and I seem to share the same aesthetic taste for overall ship shape. Winter, your stuff is clean and sharp. Very nice.):

The Texas Battleship, done a few weeks ago:

I just did this one last night. Heavy cruiser escort for the Texas, but large enough to lead its own battlegroup in less intense sectors. (As you can see I prefer round bulging to convey power/armoring):

I realize I need to spend some time working up smaller ships such as destroyers, frigates, and corvettes and quit concentrating on such massive vessels. But I tend to play with fleets of one or two giant capital ships mixed with scores of fighters, so to date I've not had the need for duty craft.

CA427 was the first ship of her class, seen here. She was photographed, as fitted with weaponry, on her shakedown cruise.

Hey, I'm new here and just got the game. I'm really impressed with everything I've seen here. Do you guys have any tips and tricks for modding? Thus far I've had trouble creating anything worthwhile. Does it just take time to figure out or is there some methodology you guys use to produce this stuff? Also are you guys using some sort of mod to gain extra pieces or are you doing all this with just the stuff that came with the box?

Thanks

No real tricks to my designs...just a lot of trial and error, patience, tweaking, and time. The new tools (like being able to resize and adjust angles after attaching the parts) helped a LOT. I could never tell you how to remake my designs (I'd have a hard time redoing them myself), especially the more complex ones like that Enterprise and that Millennium Falcon. My methodology is to picture the ship I want (either in my head or looking at an actual picture) then play with the various hulls and parts to see how close I can come to that vision with what's available.

All my designs were made without mods, just with what came with the collector's edition.

Not looking to reproduce your work, just make stuff of similar quality :)

One last question though, how do you turn off the red dots to take screen shots or do you do it somewhere other than the creation screen?

You can toggle the hardpoints (red dots) on and off in the shipyards. It's the small button in the corner of the creation screeen with the model rotation buttons. However I don't usually take my screen shots there. The screen shots I have here were taken either on the main map or in the battle viewer.

I haven't taken the time to create the really good multi-angle pictures like Hillslam. After spending sometimes more than an hour on a design and then actually building and launching one, I'm too lazy to take the time to create the really good looking screen shots.

Have fun with it, can't wait to see what you come up with!

-Vampyr Class- Planetary Strike Fighter [Tiny]
(had this on my hard drive for some time, and finaly got five minutes to post it. I always found the basic tiny hulls to show up as too large on the map, compared to the small hull (especialy the relative cockpit size bothered me)- so I made this- looks great in formation)

Note: I don't normaly use this colour in my games; but this model and the screenshots were made while using the "Advanced Shipyard Scenario". For best results use medium and dark grey as seen below.

Design Studies: The development of the Tarasque

Note: Also in Human colours so as to make the variations better visible (for better looking images in the actual colours in use, see Post 119. Suggestions welcomed- spot any particular favorite or obsolete designs?

Praetorian Orbital Defense Station: The name says it all, this thing is supposed to defend your planets from attack. It has no engines or life support and has balanced weapons and defenses. However, due to its high cost, it will most likely be used to defend only th most important planets of your empire. I have included a size comparison wit hmy largest and smallest ships to give a perspective as to the size of this awesome battlestation.
