Post Your Ship Designs

Not so many weapons- at least not in the Merchantman variant. It has merely got one sole more advanced Nano Ripper gun up front since the trade and support modules take away quite some space on a large hull, but its quite well protected due to the defensive systems. The two engines give it a top speed of 9 parsecs/wk...

Edit: If one'd take away the cargo module and replace it with some weapons you'd get a nice Dreadnought ;)

I don't bother to arm my freighters. I did once, but it's almost pointless since they won't be running in fleets and the AI usually attacks them with fleets. It might be enough to hold off a solo raider, but the benefit of that is debatable given that the ships run solo deep in enemy turf with little hope of near-by support.

They do look flashy tho :p

cool :)

anyway, I'll try to get a few screenshots of some ships I made in the demo. I have at least one I'd like to show, which is a fighter prototype. I know I probably can't move designs from the demo to the full game, but I may want to do something different anyway :)

also, winter, did you take your screenshots like the previous page from the ship designer? just wondering where exactly you did them.

edit: erm, how much does it cost to buy a licence for HyperSnap? because when I started it, it said I have a 15 day trial, but if I buy a licence for it, I can use it however long I want

Judging from the way the files work I'm pretty sure you'll be able to retain your designs for the retail version :) The screenies I made in the ship designer main window using Hypersnap (see post 95 ). The only anoying thing about this is that one cannot stop the darn things from turning while on display :(:(:( But at least this way one can even picture them from angles that one'd normaly not see (like from below or from the side, etc)

actually you can stop the rotation, in the demo anyway because there is a button for the autorotation.

what about paying for the Hypersnap? how much does it cost?

anyway, here is the prototype fighter, I wanted to put a weapon on each of those prongs making 8 weapons in total, but didn't have room so I ended up putting the weapons on the nose of the craft.

edit: agh, sorry for the different pic sizes making them look a little strange, I'm not as good as Winter is at editing/cropping pics.

its actually a tiny hull, I wanted it to look scary and put lots of weapons on it. I actually zoomed in with the ship editor so its bigger than it really looks. but up close it could certainly be intimidating.

something is really buggy with the demo because its completely messing up the other fighter prototype I did on the shipbuilder. I origionally did it using the terran style hull, but here I'm using the drengin hull and believe me, this is NOT how I origionally designed it

this is what it showed when I viewed it

and this is what it did when I tried to upgrade it

I tried to get it again in another game, but something is REALLY buggy with the demo because the custom made ships don't appear in the shipyard when I finish the needed research, sometimes they do, but not usually.

Just a quickie preview of my newest design: The Unicorn Class, realizing the need for a large ship for plenty of sensors and range (in my latest game I was so busy colonizing faster than the opponents and fending them off during the start-up phase that I didn't manage to build scouts or anything much apart from colony ships and small planetary defence vessels). So now I need somethin of minimum Cargo Hull proportions to undertake the screening of the surrounding space: The Unicorn was born: Lean, fast, with plenty of storage and pretty to look at. More to come...

Its been a while... but now finally Ihave gotten to dismatle the ugly Ferrol Class. I scrapped the entire front half and that left me with several possibilities for new ship types. So it was decided to maintain the basic rear build and to make several new fronts (apart from overhauling some overall proportion issues)- here is the result this far:

Hey W.i.n.t.e.r, I am trying to reproduce the ships you made for my own use, but I can't seem to find some of the jewelery you used. It is mostly the "armor plating" you used. I can't seem to find anything that even remotely looks like it. I am using Kryo's mod, so any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

The pieces I am talking about are the ones that are circled in this picture:

Thanks a million! Can't wait to see the redesigned Tarasque (my personal favorite of all your designs).
