Later today, 12 hours or so, I'm planning on taking my savings and going to the local staples to see what I can get in the way of a gaming computer (All of our local computer shops have closed down, so its either staples or an hour drive to the next city's futureshop)

I realise I have asked before but I'm looking for specifics this time, Im curious what a good amount of RAM and memory would be or what kind of video card I should be aiming for

Here's a suggestion: Dont. Staples doesnt have anything in the way of gaming machines. Order online, itll be cheaper and there is a lot more choice that you have.

You really dont want to end up buying a notebook that you will later regret. You're gonna be pretty much stuck with it for a year or two.

Depends on the games you play.
Middle range Core2Duo, 4gb RAM, HDD depends on the amount of music/video you want to store and the best graphics for your budget, it's the most important for games.
Also you need a coherent screen size to performance ratio, since you want to run game in your laptop's native resolution.
I'd say buy it online as well, the configuration will be better thought out.
