A couple of years ago a Friend fo mine found a share ware copy of a game titled 'Medieval War', it was I think for Windows 3.1 and was very similar to the Civilization games. Does anyone know if the same people who made the Civ games help make 'Medieval War' aswell. Has anyone else heard of this game?

never heard of it :) What might help though is the original "release date". Then someone could probably tell you if it truely was before civ days :)

No it's not, thats the game I found many links to that game, when just searching medieval war, that's why its hard to find good info on this game. it's just titled Medieval War.

Also I don't know if it only came out on Windows 3.1, just thats the oldest computer I saw it run on so I know it can't be too new. It might not be a pre-cursor, but a game they made after the first Civ, just wondering if Sid Meier or any of the other ppl may have helped make it.

I assumed it was a pre-cursor since the units were basically glorified stick men, the version of Civ 1 I played had at least graphics etc.

I have played this game and it is very similar in regards to the military aspect of Civilization. There is no building cities, city improvements, or terrain improvements.
There are only 4 kinds of terrain- sea, plains, forest, and mountains. It is turned based. There is terrain marked with an "L" where if you move a unit on it, a new castle is founded for you.
You start of with a single castle in which you build military units which have different turn costs to build, and different movement rates, and attack and defense strengths. Some have bombardment ranges (Catapults, Balista), and some can transport other units (Horses, Ships). The goal is to capture your rivals' castles. It does play a lot like Civilization, but as far as I know there is no connection.

Sid Meier has remarked that major influences when he was creating Civ were Risk and SimCity.

I just looked at the .zip from the location provided by HalfBadger, and it has a file date of 6/21/95. This would put it several years after Civ hit the scene.
