and people get upset about writers having a long copyright so that they have some chance of getting some money back from their early work.

Well then hopefully when you get enough published in magazines you will be able to get a collection published.

Well being a writer is a bit like being Greece in Victoria (the game). You start in a bad state, but if you play correctly you will get to a point where you expand exponentially and can thrive even as the greatest in your area, under the sun

The question seems absurd. Given that all mags have equal value why wouldn't you want multiple publications?

To name one reason: having multiple publications in one periodical would arguably mean that you become more linked to it, and in this country most periodicals of literature produce their own titles as books as well. I know a couple of magazines that have decent publishing houses, and would LOVE to have a book by them...

Other than that i agree that many magazines seems to be better, since you get to be read by more people, and they may in turn buy some of the other magazines, now with the internet things get connected pretty easily...
