:bump: Some more (actually three) internet-only magazine publications pending. Two of them claimed my work is "amazing" ( :wow: ). Also pending are two examinations of work of mine by printed magazines, so i am going the route the poll seems to suggest...

:goodjob:

you know... one day you should write something in English ;) :p

Hopefully I will see your photo on the back of a book in ten years time and say to myself “those curtains look familiar”.:goodjob:

Well, you became prophetic... At least the basis for that is set, since the second magazine asked me for a photograph two days ago, and i sent this one, with the now known curtains ;)

So open up a book of history of literature in a few decades, and who knows... :D

Very good.

I hope you get a good response and they want lots more articles from you.

why is the poll closed?

why set it to expire?

I would say just publish where you can. Any attention is good attention. I'm about to publish a book of my own, and i have no idea how to make people buy it. it is just the crisis, the Tv, the anti-intellectual enviroment.

Good luck with your book. All that is needed is one publisher believing in you, so that your work will be out. Do not expect an instant hit for most of the time it won't happen (i know i did, but it escaped me). Instead focus on your work and publish as much as possible; the situation right now is bad, but perhaps in the future it will be more favorable for books.

I had a friend signed with Random House. They kept making him do rewrites to fit the changes in the political climate. The problem was the political climate kept swinging back and forth so he kept getting "it's too radical!" "ok j/k we want the radical version again" eventually the whole thing got shelved and it will be released at the end of the contracts auto-publish date in like 6 years, a good 4 years after he finished writing it.

My own work is almost apolitical, at least there is no conscious attempt to include political elements in it. The sick environment of the real crisis of Europe and this country is there, but it feeds into the fears and urges of the protagonists.

Thanks.

The problem i see is with supply and demand. People demand books about love and sex. i write good sex stories. But i don't like them much myself. i like to write gloomy fairytales ala Alice in Wonderland instead. But people don't appreciate them that much.

:/ It seems at least three of the major magazines don't like my work, since they did not even bother to reply to the two messages i sent each over the course of the past three months. That is bad, although at least i have two magazine publications now elsewhere.
I was told by a friend that maybe it is not a good idea to keep sending work to the same magazine that accepted a story of mine, since they may feel choked by the amount of reading, so i refrained from sending more and will try again in a month.
Does seem that my best bet for a continuous presence in this stage is the second magazine, since they accepted all three pieces i sent them, although only one is already published there...

Some trivia: Both published in magazines stories are about criminal actions (although they are not the center of the story, they do occur). One results in certain death, the other in nearly certain death. So i could change my name to Thanatos i guess :)

:bump:

The publisher of a third magazine just emailed me and asked for my biographical note and also to call him. Looks like he wants to publish a story by me...

So it seems in a while i will have three published stories in three different periodicals. So much for the plan to have a stable market, but i think you were right that having works in many magazines was better.

This is good news.:):goodjob:

With the small amount of money you will be getting you are not allowed to buy a curtain to put in front of your book shelf.;)

Well it is not exactly certain i will be getting any money for the story... although the publisher did tell me to visit him at his office, which i will do probably next week. I spoke to him on the phone and he said that he will print my story in the next edition, which is rather impressive given that the next edition is to be released pretty soon (seems like he wants to edit the format it would have had, to include my story...)

I assumed you would get a nominal sum, and then next time say 100-200 euro.
But I know nothing and publishing in the UK and less than nothing about publishing in Greece.
