Problem Installing CIV: Gold Edition

I tried installing CIV: Gold Edition on my new computer and I got this message:

this seems to mean one of two things:
1) your cd drive is not correctly connected to the computer
2) you are trying to install from a disk that was improperly created

What should I do? Get a new disk? I know I installed the Gold Edition without any problems on another computer, and installing Civ3: Complete worked fine on my new computer as well.

try the following: copy all contents of the disc(s) to a folder on your hard drive and run the installer from there.

I don't get the error anymore (it fixed on its own), but on Disk 2 I now get the error:

Please, can anyone help?

does this happen when copying the disc as well?
this error usually indicates either a dirty or damaged disc...

So what do you suggest I do?

try cleaning the disc with a soft dry cloth.
are there any scratches on it?
