problem loading BTS pbem new game file from friend

I'm a new Civ4 user, and having problem loading a file emailed from my friend after he took his turn in starting our new game (my first game). I have Win7 OS. When loading the emailed file i get the following error message: “Cannot load version 302, expected version 300 or lower”

I recently installed the Civ4 game, and used the advanced menu in the game to install the update that it found. Everything seemed to load fine as for as the game installation and patch.

My “about this build” screen shows:

civ version 303
save version 300
build version 3.0.3.1.

Please advise as to possible solutions, and also as to what the error message and my 3 versions mean.

It would be bets if you are both running the same version and patch level.

Mine is fully patched and it says

Civ Version: 319
Save Version: 302
Build Version: 3.1.9.0 (128100)
Build Date: Fri May 15 02:17:10 2009
Build: FINAL RELEASE

Both players should be identical, as each patch version makes changes to the save files. i.e. 3.19 actually fixed a load/save issue.
