I thought I would give this month's GOTM a go. I just hope I can find the time to finish it before the deadline.

It's probably just me doing something wrong but I am unable to open the recently posted GOTM 41 .sav file. I am using v 1.29b2 and have succesfully installed the all in one GOTM update. I have already checked that I did not download the PTW .sav by mistake. When I try to load the file it is greyed out (unselectable) in the OSX file selection menu. Anybody know what I could be doing wrong?

Welcome to MacCFC and to GOTM :wavey:

If you are using Mac OS file selection dialogs then you need to ensure that the file has the correct creator and type, and that the file extension is upper case - .SAV.

Solution #1: Change Civ3 to use the built-in file selectors in the Civ3 start-up dialog. This is more forgiving on the above issues, but sometimes doesn't let you navigate away from the Civ3 application folder to find a save file, so drop the save file into your Civ3 Saves folder first.

Solution #2: Download the Civ3 File Fixer Applescript in my signature. You can drag and drop the file onto it, or you can attach it to your normal download folder as a Folder Action to adjust every downloaded save automagically.

Let me know if you still have problems.

Changing the case isn't enough to solve this problem. There's also some file meta data that relates to the way legacy Mac OS files were linked to their applications, and that can only be set up on a Mac. My script fixes it.

Unix is case sensitive, but generally MacOS and Mac applications try to it, occasionally with strange results. The Civ3 1.29 beta wasn't re-released after the problem was found, although I believe the release version was fixed, and is still lying mouldering somewhere in MacSoft's archives.
