At 3 o'clock this morning I achieved a Spaceship Victory before 2050AD whilst playing Civilization IV at Chieftain level. At least I thought I had. For whatever reason my spaceship didn't launch. I checked and rechecked. My spaceship was complete but no matter what I did I couldn't get it to launch. Can anybody help me? Thanks.

Can you post a save at all?

It sounds odd. Are you sure you built all the parts? Some of the parts you have to build more than one of (5 SS Casing for example).

Did you check the F1 Advisor? Check if there is any city still building a SS part.

Can you check the Victory Conditions screen? (not sure what function key)
It will list all SS parts, how many you need of each and how many you have built.

If you are allied with someone, your ally may be building a SS part which you need him to finish before you can launch.

Dear PieceOfMind

I hope you don't mind but I'm sending you another message as I've just this minute worked out how to send an attachment. So here goes. Again, thanks for responding to my recent post on the Civilization Fanatics website.

Heh?? Is it possible to build spaceship parts WITHOUT the apollo program?

No.

For whatever reason my spaceship didn't launch. I checked and rechecked. My spaceship was complete but no matter what I did I couldn't get it to launch.

That doesn't make sense  Is it possible that you didn't have Space Race Victory condition checked at the beginning of the game? Then again, I dont see why it would allow you to build the parts. This is strange :(

Has any of the other victory conditions has been reached?
Saying it is 2050 AD it could already be decided with a time victory , then it would make sence your spaceship wouldnt launch , otherwise it may be some bug when you can get 2 victory conditions on the same turn the game messes up? Cant check the save right now im at work .

legendary is 50k culture. melbourne has 60k, the 2nd and 3rd best just ~30k ~40k.

and if you've achieved a victory condition already there would be this annoying white text.

Did anyone notice it says 6 turns left in 2014AD? This doesn't seem like a normal game to me. The game is supposed to end at 2050. You haven't used any mods I assume?

Did you patch to a new version while mid-game? Otherwise this one has me stumped.

By the way would I be right if I guessed you're Victorian?

I can't find the Apollo Program either. I've checked all of my cities and its simply not there. I would have built it if it had become available. I don't know what happened. I honestly can't remember seeing it. It's nowhere to be found. By the way, I haven't changed any of the Victory Conditions. They are the same now as they were when I started the game. I wonder if it might be a problem with the DVD? I wonder how I can check this?... Any suggestions? Thanks.

Don't worry about that. The Apollo Program is a project so I'm pretty sure that means that once it's built, it won't be in any of your cities. It's not quite the same as a wonder.

I haven't used any mods but I did patch to a new version towards the end of the game. There were a few "strange" things happening. In particular, every time I started CIV4 I kept getting a weird screen which consisted of 2 screens superimposed over the top of each other. I wonder if patching to a new version during the game is what caused my spaceship victory problem?

Also, I noticed after I patched to a new version that the "Retire" button disappeared. It was there when I started but not there after I patched.

Re the Victorian thing. Yes I am. How clever of you to notice...

The Apollo program was definitely built. I can see it in the Top 5 Cities/Wonders section under Projects.

My guess is that by patching this game borked up. Probably 3 cities were already above 25k culture, and the patch "swapped" it from normal game speed to quick speed. It's something I saw in my HoF list as well after patching. Games I played on Quick suddenly show as Epic and so.

Advancing the game past 2020 didn't pop up a time victory either, and I voted Mansa Musa as SecGen to see if that would trigger a victory for the AI. Nothing, not even 2 other AI's finishing their spaceship.

In that case I'd say the fact that you patched mid-game is the real problem here.
I know some really weird things can happen when you patch mid-game with civ4.
It's also the reason why it says 6 turns left at 2014. After the patch (not sure which patch exactly) they changed the number of turns in a normal game, and they also fiddled a bit with the years/turn counts in the last few centuries of the normal speed games.

Looks like spaceship victory is right out for this game. Your only option now is Time Victory. Starting any new games from now you shouldn't have any problems hopefully.:goodjob:

EDIT Ok, after GeoModder's comment, it looks like you can't win at all on this map.

You should not install or patch anything with the application already running. Typically before anything installs it gives you a warning box to close the applications and any others that may be running just to be safe =/

I've just finished my first game. I built all the parts for the Spaceship, bar one. The trouble is that it wouldn't let me build it (even though I'd already built 4 of the same part!) Some screens seemed to think I'd built all the components and others didn't. I played on trying to achieve a diplomatic victory and quite a few turns later it suddenly said I'd achieve a Space Race Victory! I don't know what's going on there.

I'd guess that you had the last component building in one of your cities without realizing it. The one being built counts towards the total number you can build, which would be why the game wouldn't let you build it in another city.

Linthar is right. The SS Casing must be built 5 times before your spaceship can launch. "A few turns later", you completed that 5th part.

One of the other parts (can't remember which) needs 3 to be built.
