problems with the game and the edit

when i try to load a save file it loads to 8% then says...

then i click ok and another screen says...

and i don't get to continue the saved game


with the civ edit the whole place where the ocean tiles are ment to be is blank and if i click on terrain it says

and if i click resources its the same

Hi, welcome

The DataIO error usually means that the file you are trying to load was created in a newer version of Civ3. The Civ3Edit errors could be to do with similar issues.

A couple of questions:

1. There are two versions of Civ3 for Macs. The old original Civ3 from MacSoft, and the current Civ3 Complete from Aspyr. MacSoft's version had several patches, and Aspyr's has also had a few. Which one are you trying to use?

2. Did you save the file that you are trying to load yourself, and did you use the same version of Civ3 to save it as you are using to load it?

3. Civ3Edit will only work with version 1.21g of the old MacSoft Civ3. Is that what you are using?

4. Finally, what Mac hardware are you running, and what version of Mac OS X?

I recommend you find the updater to version 1.21g. Lots of things changed in the patches, and the files are not compatible.

There may also be problems if you are on an Intel CPU, because byte order is reversed in this case, and the saves may not be readable. Intel CPUs came along way after MacSoft last updated the Civ3 software.

i got a new problem when my workers walked past my rifleman my rifle
killed them and a modern armour in a transport killed another modern armour in the transport and it said on my garrison i had a rifleman and a swordman but i right clicked on the city and there was no swordman

ive updated to 1.21g btw

You still haven't said what Mac hardware you are using.

Is this a modded game? If so it sounds as though the scenario is corrupted.

Alan, if he is on 10.3.9, I do not think that he can be using an Intel machine. I do not think that 10.3.9 runs on an Intel box. Also, Red Belly, once you are using the upgrade, if you upgrade your system to 10.4, your editor will look a little weird, lots of pink triangles.

Is there a crash log? Have you checked that the wonder splash images are actually in place where they are supposed to be?

there was crash log for some reason and i back the whole art section and modded the real 1 (e.g graphics). when it started i replaced the splash screen with the original and it still didnt work so i replaced the art folder with the original but still work

What does the crash log say? Or did you miss out "no" from this sentence? I'm sure there would be a crash log. Have you opened /Applications/Utilities/Console, and looked in ~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/ ?

Sorry, no idea. It's clearly crashing while trying to draw the splash screen, but I don't know whether that's because there is no wonder splash image to display, or because the image is corrupt, or some other issue. How much memory do you have? What size map are you playing on? Does this happen for every wonder or a specific one? Is it crashing in the early or late game?

I don't recall whether you can turn off wonder splash screens in version 1.21g - if so, that might be a workround.
