Project Advanced + 14 non official leaderheads for Civ4

When can we expect an early version? It wouldn't matter if it's half or 1/3 of the project, anything coming out would be good as is. :) (I'm not pushing, lol)

As soon as possible! Yes, really, as soon as possible, probably within a week or two, depends if we encounter any hurdles or problems. We are as eager as you to release this. :goodjob:

So yes, we are working hard, and have done alot of research, and planning, and are going to begin the process of coding and such (now that we have the game).

I am a complete idiot. I know there are literally thousands of people with their own personal requests on these boards, but youy have to help me. I adore everything having to do with ancient egypt. It is fascinating to me. I also love Civ. I am an active duty marine, and despite what anyone may say...I will always play as the egyptians and the egyptians only. I'm sure you are now understanding where I am going with this. The lady is the most cartoony of the bunch. It's my only gripe about the game. Is it even possible, or can anyone spend time out of their busy schedule to help this poor mmarine who is in dire need of a Ramses Leaderhead with the appropriate graphics....I know that there are modders out there, but this is probably wayyy too complicated, but I know 2k and Fireaxis reads these things. Can someone help a brother out. I saw someone wrote something up so you can use diiferent leaderheads with different civs...I will be using that in the meantime. I doubt many will answer to this, and the few that do, will probably have their own requests, but give it some consideration smart people. It's just not right.....:( lol

 great post. I knwo how you feel, and I think many peopel have a whole bunch of little ways they like to play Civ. I'll agree, the curent Egyptian leaderhead is the worst of them all. Some like Geroge Washington are simply amazing, but the Egyptian leaderhead blows.

I would change the leader name of the Ottoman/Turk guy to someone like Suleyman or Mehmet II, Selim I was a terrible leader, and there are much better choices imo ;)

What program do you use to make your leader heads?

I have used 3, none of them cut it… one was even made for making heads… maybe it’s me.

kfm = key frame (master)?
dds = direct draw something... a texture file
Kf= keyframe.... an animation file
nif is the 3d model file

also, I think .tga files can be used for many things, but .dds was used for lower end computers.

So, these r the files that the creators must produce or edit. I did some search about *.nif, its looks like the main file of the LHs and it also looks like similar to *.pdf. So, if I can put artworks into a *.nif file the LHs will work, is it right?
I think the LH artworks of Civ2 were in *.pdf files, maybe they use a similar process.

For all the other posters: thanks for all the comments and requests :D , thanks so much fellows!!! :thanx: Right now I'll continue the search to try convert these LHs mines to LHs that works in Civ4 :)

Well... If you guys get around to it-you should really consider making a second Roman LH. I mean seriously-Romes like the best civ anyway! I cant belive they didnt have two to begin with. Mabey Augustus or something? I've always wanted to see a Roman LH in a Roman General's uniform (helmet and all). To me that would just help symbolize the might of rome for me... but then again mabey that wouldn't be very practicle considering the same animations are used for the whole game... still-roman armor=sweet LH. Just something to think about :)

Thanks for addressing the issue for me guys!! I'm excited someone might take up my cause...I'm patient I can wait. One thing though one of the traits has to be Spiritual...the other I leave to you guys, but Spiritual is a must have...(besides, no anarchy...yipeee) Thanks again....gods of modding..I will sacrifice 3 Chinese cities on your behalf. They aren't mine, they belong to the chinese, but I wasn't gonna do it originally. I'M JUST DOIN IT TO OFFER TRIBUTE TO YOU GUYS!!! LOL

.nifs are quite different and require specific keyframes to work. I mod for Freedom Force, which uses the same engine, so I know something about it. It requires specialized plugins to make .nifs. FF only has ones for 3ds Max, but rumor has it that civ4 might have the plug-ins for free programs, too. Keyframes are somewhat complicated to use, I hear, but they do contain the animation. It might be possible to use the ones from some other leaderheads, however. After all, a head bob or a smile is basically the same, no matter what the leader.

I'm hoping that Firaxis uses Maya, because my buddy is a Civ nut like me AND he's got his BFA in Computer Animation AND his own personal Maya workstation :goodjob:

Suleyman is supposed to be an Ottoman leader, but CivArmy must have forgotten about him.

Selim I was forty-seven years old when he overthrew his father. He reigned as Sultan for just eight years, but in that short period, he doubled the size of the Ottoman dominion. The splendor of his conquests, the high abilities which he displayed in literature and in politics as well as in war and the imperious vigor of his volatile nature were offset by a sadistic and unrelenting cruelty to those who served him the best.

In his own time, it became a common curse upon a personal enemy to wish them: "Mayest thou be the Vizier of Sultan Selim.

Selim's Viziers seldom survived their promotion to that post for more than a few months. Many Viziers were known to carry their own last will and testament upon their person at all times, being fully aware that they were soon destined for the bowstring.

Selim's final dying wish was an order to execute his only son.
This wish was thwarted by his terrified advisors. With his final dying breath Selim is reputed to have asked if his order had been carried out. When assured that it had, he smiled and then expired.

Fortunately for the Ottoman Empire, Selim's wish had not been realized. The Son of Selim and the next Sultan was Suleyman. Suleyman was possibly the greatest of the Turkish sultans and is known to this day in the West as "Suleyman (Solomon) The Magnificent.

Selim's son reigned over the apex of the Ottoman empire, and was himself enslaved by love to a captured Russian Slave girl named Roxanne (Hurrem Sultan). Through murder and intrigue, she became the mother of the next Sultan, (Selim the Sot) Her inordinate dominance over Suleyman marked the beginning of the long decline of the Ottoman Empire, through a descending line of incapable rulers.

Ironic, then, that a slave from the Ottoman court went on to walk the corridors of power in Russia.

I want to congratulate Civ Army on his perserverance since Civ 3. You've done the hard part, finding a way to convert the leaderheads to Civ 4 will come in time.

If more forumites can keep giving their time to their specialist areas and coming up with quality then we are in a good position.

Big ups Civ Army!

I realise that my request may seem self centered, ut could you make an Australian Civ.

The Leader could be Bob Hawke (Once held the world record for drinking a yard glass of beer, and also former Prime Minister) or Edmund Barton (The first PM of Australia). The cities would be easy enough, the traits could be Financial and Organised, I'm not sure what the traits do because I haven't played the game yet. If anyone could suggest more appropriate traits that would be good. I realise AUstralia isn't a civ but in a fairly short period of time it has become a major player in various international organisations (maybe I'm bias) and it has one of the fastest gtowing economies in the world (well... it did, I'm not sure if it still does).

Also, for the Polynesian UU you could have a Maori Warrior, replaces normal warrior.

Just an idea.

Yes, we will definately add this Civ on our list. However we cannot grant that Australia will be added on the first mod version release, however it would definately come soon enough. :)

If it possible to have more than 2 leaders for a nation? Some could really use more of them(ie Thomas Jefferson, Alexander Hamilton, Andrew Jackson for US; King George III, Winston Churchill, David Lloyd George for England; Nicholas II, Josef Stalin, Boris Yeltzin for Russia, etc.)

I am SURE it can be done, given the emphasis that Firaxis has put on being able to mod the game. It seems like a simple change, and shouldn't be too hard.

It seems that Civ 4 has a second leaderhead non used for Arabia ...

Play a christian Mahomet, should be fun ...
