Project: Arda Mod (LOTR)

Yes, alive and working on the elven civs. Sorry for didn't posting anything, busy week at school. I've almost finished it, there are only the pedia and the graphics to be done.

I'm having some trouble with the UUs. (game crashes after a civ choice. i'm trying to straighten that out)

For now, I'm not concerned about doing any UUs, as I plan to have different unit sets for each race. Oh, and I did not test anything I have done until now, because my CD is broken.

Mail it to me when you're done, i'll test everything.

Hi!

I just wanted to hear about the progress of this mod since the last post is from september the 28th?

And another thing according to the chosen elf clans. The Noldor is a sure choice and maybe also the Sindar (descendants of the great Teleri Clan) but what do u have in mind for the Avari elves.
They are wild elves and it is said in the "Great Bible", "The Silmarillion" that they were the first elves to be captured and transformed into orcs.
Do u think of them as "Dark Elves" in your Mod?
Have you thought of the Silvan Elves of Mirkwood (also descendants of the Teleri Clan) with Thranduil as their leader and or Legolas?
The Teleri Clan is a very big clan from whom many of the other clans were descendants of.

Well, I and thomas.berubeg are working on the civs, but the work goes slowly because there are only two people. We are currently using the Chamber of Records forum (http://www.chamber-of-records.com/forum/index.php), a forum for LOTR modders, where we have a subforum.
About the Avari, it's exactly what you have said, they are the Silvan elves (some of the Nandor also became Silvan) of Mirkwood. But it weren't the Avari that became the orcs, because when they were captured there wasn't such division (the elves weren't called to Aman yet). And about the Teleri, I only used the Sindar and Nandor, because the Falmari (those that reached Valinor) didn't play a big role on the Middle Earth, as the Vanyar didn't. So they are out.

Avari: "'The Unwilling'; those of the Elves who refused the summons of the Valar to dwell in Valinor, and remained in the dark wilds of Middle-earth. Some of the Avari, it is said, were corrupted by Melkor in ancient days to become the progenitors of the race of Orcs.".
This is from The Encyclopedia of Arda http://www.glyphweb.com/ARDA/default.asp?url=http://www.glyphweb.com/ARDA/s/silmarillion.html.
The Silvan Elves:
Long before the beginning of the First Age, the Elves of the Great Journey travelled westward through the lands of Middle-earth. Coming to the Great River Anduin and the high peaks of the Misty Mountains, some of the Elves of the clan of the Teleri fell away from the journey, and settled in the woodlands east of the Mountains. These were the original Silvan Elves, who lived on either side of the River.

Any Comments on that?

If you feel like helping, feel free, tell us what you can do: it would be really nice if you were an art person, but... anything is helpful.

Hi!

It would be an honour to help you with this mod, but when it comes to modding then my skills are unproven yet.
But if you can give me something easy to do like civilopedia textures and unit descriptions, and give me a quick "how to do" manual, then I will surely help.

"You have my sword"- Aragorn at Elronds Council

I really need Civilopedia entries for Dunland, freca, Beor, Dwarven palace, palaces in general, and if you can find some city names for the dwarves that would be wonderful

by the way i only have the men of dale left to do.

That, or PM them to me, or you could even E-mail them: my address is right above.

thank you

DUNLAND:
A land in the eastern regions of the Enedwaith, beneath the southern Misty Mountains. Its warlike inhabitants were known as Dunlendings, blood-enemies of the Rohirrim.
Dunland was founded by Hill-men travelling northward from the White Mountains during the Dark Years, which places its foundation during the Second Age. We also know that it did not exist at the time when the Númenóreans began their exploitation of Middle-earth in about II 1800, so it must have come into existence within a few centuries of this date.
DUNLENDINGS:
Wild Men who inhabited Dunland in the southern regions of Eriador during the Third Age; the sworn enemies of the Rohirrim.
We know that Dunland was founded some time during the Dark Years of the Second Age, but there is no detailed account of the settlement of the first Dunlendings.
FRECA:
A lord of far western Rohan, who was descended from King Fréawine. His lands stood on either side of the River Adorn, which marked Rohan's western border, and it was said that he had Dunlendish blood in his veins, too, from the people of Dunland beyond the border. Nonetheless he was a lord of Rohan and a councillor to its King, Helm.
Freca attempted to strengthen his power in Rohan by marrying his son, Wulf, to Helm's daughter. He travelled to Edoras with a force of Men to compel the King to agree, but instead Helm struck him a deadly blow with his fist. Freca's family and followers fled from Helm's anger, but four years later Wulf returned, invading Rohan with an army of Dunlendings, an invasion in which Helm was killed. Nevertheless, the slaying of Freca was not forgotten by his people, and even at the time of the War of the Ring, more than two hundred and fifty years later, the memory of his death still kindled hatred of the Rohirrim among the Dunlendings.
BËOR:
Leader of the first Men to cross the Blue Mountains into Beleriand in the First Age. He became a servant of Finrod Felagund, and through his son Baran founded one of the Three Houses of the Edain.
HOUSE OF BËOR:
The oldest of the Three Houses of the Edain, the descendants of Bëor the Old, who entered the household of Finrod Felagund. Barahir and his son Beren Erchamion were members of this House.
DWARVEN CITIES:
Bar-en-Danwedh, Bar-en-Nibin-noeg, Khazad-dûm, Tumunzahar, Nulukkizdîn, Gabilgathol, Erebor, these are the dwarvish city names.
Can´t find more cities in dwarvish except other names in elvish and mannish.
Here they are:
Belegost (Elvish for Gabilgathol), Dwarrowdelf (Mannish for Khazad-dûm),
Hadhodrond (Elvish for Khazad-dûm), Mickleburg (Mannish for Gabilgathol),
Nogrod (Elvish for Tumunzahar).
About the palaces, what do u mean with that. Castles or Fortresses or simply Capitals of the Empires of Middle Earth?

Hope these infos can help!

Aragorn7

What i meant was a better tag for palace for teh civilopedia (right now i'm using the one from vanila) thank you very much

Wow, great, Aragorn7. I would just add some more detailed info about the antecessors of the dunlendings (I forgot their name now), and some more info about the civs after their foundation (for example, tell about the destruction of the House of Bëor by the forces of Morgoth). In my elvish pedias, I'm puting on many quotes from the Silmarillion, also because it's easier than writting all the text, but do it by your way.
About dwarvish city names, use some mountain names: Iron Hills, Ered Mithrin. Also, add Gundabad: it was conquered by the orcs and made into their capital, but it was the place were Durin woke up.

No I don´t! But you should ask them to either teach you how to make it or to borrow their work. All Mods in these forums are somehow cooperating and lending from each other. I don´t think they will mind to help you with this great mod, they are most likely lord of the rings fans too :)!
