Hello, hopefully I'm not causing any headaches by opening another thread... if there is someplace else you would like me to use for discussion, let me know :) Also, is there a place for unrelated quick/newbie questions, and are there any comprehensive guides for this mod (I've already read through several of the strategy forum threads, which were very helpful regarding invis units, criminals, and city properties)? The scope of this modpack is huge, and it seems many other mods have been incorporated... some are optional but have dramatic effects on gameplay, so I wouldn't be surprised if a general guide does not exist...

Note: I'm using the release version, not the dev version.

Anyway, this thread was prompted by my experience with the Persian Immortals UU. I was excited to get a really cool, elite horsemen replacement, however, in practice, they are far inferior, and I no longer replace them when they are killed to below the national limit. The main reason appears to be that they are tagged as both Mounted and Archer units. This results in almost every enemy having at least +25% against them (by having either the vs. archery promo or the vs. mounted promo). Additionally, attacking into a stack is suicide (usually less than 5% win rate), as there is always a unit or two with the first two promos against both archery and mounted, and almost always even the second-tier, giving them at least +75% strength, not considering river crossings or terrain.

I only use them for barrage, and my experience is that it has very limited uses, usually missing and only being able to damage the enemy to about 90% strength or so. At least they are mobile and can retreat after barrages... but they hardly make a difference, regardless... far from the 'elite' UU I had hoped for. I have just sent them to the north pole, hoping to sentry them along the coast to block any ships from dropping off bandits...

It seems that units with two combat types are at a massive disadvantage; has this been considered when balancing units? I don't have much experience with the mod; am I doing something wrong, or do you have any advice for a newbie?

Thanks!

I play the SVN version, so I'm not certain when it was added, but there are alot more unit type specific +xp buildings than there once were. In my experience this makes up for the disadvantage of being weak against more units because they get an extra 2 promotions on adverage, and single class units aren't getting as many promotions as they once were.
