I really like playing Civ III for pc, and want it for mac, but was told it's not out, or something, but I was also told that I could get some patches from this site that would give me most of the features available in PTW on my mac. I can't seem to find them though. Can anybody direct me or give me some links?

Welcome to the Mac-madhouse. :wavey:

There are three kinds of patches on the site:

1. An updater to the Mac Civ3 CD software to get to version 1.29. Currently in beta, awaiting full release by MacSoft. The beta is stable as a rock here on OS X and provides a few new features like Stack Wake/Fortify. Look for the v 1.29 beta 2 thread in this forum.

2. Mods that are compatible with PC version 1.29 will work with Mac version 1.29 if they can be installed. Some come as .exe PC installers, and the easiest way to use them is to run them on a PC and then transfer the files that creates into the Mac Civ3 folder via a network connection or a CD-R. Look in the Customisation forum for completed mods that may be of interest.

3. A special set of mods created by the GOTM team (mostly Cracker) to allow v 1.29 players, including Mac users, to play the same games as PTW players on a level playing field. There are extra civs and units and resources that take both versions above and beyond the limits of PTW. Recent games have started to incorporate features of Conquests. Currently you can't start random games using the GOTM scenarios, only play from the start files provided for the competitions. You can find links to all the files, game instructions and competition discussion threads in the GOTM Reference thread in theGOTM forum.

Last I heard Brad Oliver indicated that it was behind several other high priority projects in the QA queue at MacSoft. Things they can sell are likely to take precedence over a free updater with very small impact. Specially as we have 90% of what it delivers already.
