PTW maps

teturkhan's map in PTW may be what you are looking for. It's a very huge map with 31 Civs! 
I am playing on that map now its around 100AD, wait time between turns is around a few minutes. IF thats too much for you then your right, dont play on this map, however if playing with all those 31 civs, over 40 resources and more than 90 new units is your thing give it a try.
The key thing to remember is with PTW you are given choices on how you want to configure your game. Some of these choices can significantly speed things up. Furthermore, the TETurkhan mod on PTW has 3 versions. One with Cities (the slowest due to the high city count right from the begining), another with just start points on the world map (keeps things fast at the begining eras), and finally there is a version that is just a mod - YOU PICK THE MAP, but still get to play with 31 civs and all those units and resources etc...
I made all 3 versions with playability in mind, this combined with game setup options that come with PTW should ensure wait time is not a problem.
