From the journals of General Hipta of the 1st Regiment in the battles for the defense of the Republic of Sinhala
June 3rd, 501 b.c.e.
The charge was given by the Aryan commander and the hords of swordsmen charged at the defending Sinhalese pikemen. We were outnumbered nearly two Aryans to one of us, but we would have to hold this line or the Aryans would be able to dive deep into Northern India. It wasn't whether we loose or not, it was whether how many men would die in this battle and how many we would have left for the next battle.
The swordsmen clashed with the front row of pikemen, the first of the swordesman to go down were the front who ran into the 5-foot poles that we were equipped with. I myself was mounted upon a horse, overseeing the battle so I knew when to give the next orders. If anyone thought that this was it, a plain tactic of holding the line, was my idea of a battle they would be soley mistaken. As soon as the battle engulfed all of the ranks of the swordsmen, I let out a call and from the rear, hidden behind a hill, the Freedom Horsemen regiment came galloping to the rescue of the pikemen.
As soon as the hosemen clashed, it gave the chance for the pikemen to regroup and reassemble to provide a better defensive unit.
"Pikes, regroup!" I yelled the orders for it, and they were immediately responsive. The pikemen began to back off, relieving the stress of the front rows. I gave another order once I could see the horsemen were loosing ground and from behin cleverly disguised hiding places archers along the side of the front arose and began to let loose a horizontal rain of arrows that caught many Aryans. Then I noticed something. Out of the corner of my eye, i caught a glimpse of a shine behind me. Turning around I witnessed a swordsmen, looking like an Aryan, stumble from a grove of trees and then dodge right back in, thinking he had been un-spotted.
Immediately I gave the orders to fall back. I rearranged the pikemen to deal with a rear attack, and have the horsemen full orders to finish off the enemy that still remain in the valley. The archers were also reconcieled.
This was all just in time, the Aryans gave the order for a rear charge. So now we were surrounded, the horsemen finishing off the remaining first attack force, and the pikemen and archers holding the 2nd Aryan attack force at bay. This did not look well. If they kept pushing, we would be sandwhiched. Just then a noice filled the valley, a noice of complete heart relifting, a noise that one could not get tired of hearing.
From the top of the hill, where the first attack came from and where the sun was slowly setting, there appeared what looked like at least three dozen horsemen. The commander, obviously the one in the front, pointed his sword to the battle and let out a loud war call, something to the effect of 'For the Republic'. The rest of the horsemen let out the same call and as they yelled the charged down the hill at full speed. This frightened the Aryans, and it was appearant as one can not fight as well if one has something else on one's mind. I knew that we have won this battle, and saved the interior of India. But how many of these battles must we rely on luck to win so to save India? How many times can we remain lucky?
To Merida
From Sinhala
Hail, we have not spoken yet. I know of your war in the mid. east, but I can't help to ask for aid. We have been attacked by the warmongering Aryans, and desperately ask for some assistance.
To Arabia
From Sinhala
Hail, friends and trading partners. Since the dawn of our contact, we have been relatively good friends and partners. Now we ask for something from this friendship. We ask that you grant Sinhala a loan of economy, as many as you can spare, so that we can better defend ourselves from the aggressivness of the Aryans. You will be fully repayed once the war is over.
ORDERS
Increase army
Continue to hold the lines with all I have, continue to fill the troops mind with moral-boosting material.
Accept whatever aid I am granted, if I am granted any. Put it to army.
Navy is to surround the Indian coast, but if an enemy fleet is headed towards Ceylon they are to fully destroy this fleet with everything I have.
