PYL III - Religious Zealots!

Ibian, that is intriguing. You gave this scenario a really interesting twist.

Can you maybe provide some information on how you specifically engineered your infrastructure for maximum culture output? That would include what buildings you picked early etc.

It doesnt really take off until you get certain key techs. FS mainly, but mercantilism and statue of liberty for free artists are also important.

Other than that, simply build all the culture buildings and run all the artists you can. Use your limited cathedrals where they will do most good.

Multiple religions help a lot. I think i have 6 of them. The one im missing is of course buddhism, because i can never catch a break in my diplomacy.

Border cities focus on production first, then swap some workshops to farms when stuff is done being built, and then wait it out.

I run cottages in non-border cities. Teching is slow before i have a lot of land and i relied mostly on bulbing and tech trading to keep up. Currently beginning to make more cottages so the tech situation should fix itself pretty soon.

Zara's UB seems kind of redundant, overkill since a CRE leader doesnt really need that fast, early culture building.

However, when you are next door to another CRE AI, that Stele becomes a MONSTER, allowing you to really swallow up you neighbors culture. I did the same thing to Sury in my game as Zara, using the cultural pressure to DoW and attack the same turn in a couple spots.

Zara, Monarch, Normal, turns 260-350.

Spoiler :
Hari and Bant flip. We raze Hari. Bant is in the only spot able to push north so we keep it. I get 4 free rifles from the deal.

The plan from here was to wait for the border to move a little and then settle a new city to push towards Angkor Wat and the capital. But Sury decided to be a jerk.

So we build a city more than we planned to. Probably not a bad thing all things considered, but i never like really cramped city placement. And yes, i farmed over those 8 commerce towns.

The world as we know it. Jerk City (i think i will rename it to that) is in its first revolt. Its in the perfect position to flip Angkor and the capital. Matara has all 7 cathedrals. Jerk City will get the same, plus the hermitage for a nice 550% culture multiplier. Thats 39 culture for each artist. And i have 3 great artists ready to settle. Matara is pumping out over 500 culture/turn and Jerk City has even greater potential.

The rest of the world as we know it. Rajawhatever up north is doomed now that i took its fishies. Nagara may or may not flip before i get the capital, but that city is a very secondary concern right now.

The only downside to all this is that i cant run emancipation because my artists are bringing in the bulk of my culture. Not a problem in this particular game since i have more happy than i need even before im done building the media wonders, but normally it could be an issue.

Also, i got +3 culture to courthouses from a random event by ignoring the constitution.

Wow, cool game Ibian, very fun looking indeed!

Spoiler :
Mine is just a boring hack and slash fest at this point. I just took Constantinople, so its just about over for Justy. I gave him peace to build so more cannons, and I will likely get a Domination win next time I DoW on him. I almost have the land already, just need the population. Teching Biology now, planning a few farms here and there, and some 20-pop cities should do it. Not really doing a real report, since its pretty boring. I do want to see how yours finishes though, so make sure you do another report!

I did do one cool thing. I spent most of the game as Confu, after I founded it, but in order to get the AIs off my back, I actually switched religions, and made my goal getting Mecca, which had the shrine of the big religion. Once I did that, and spread it to all my own cities as well, I could backstab the AIs at will, LOL. Other than that, though, boring.

Zara, Monarch, Normal, rest of the game.

Spoiler :
We unexpectedly get iron for the first time. No more trebs.

Jerk City flips.

This is also a nice example why US rocks so much. All the cities that are not this one are building the infrastructure while we simply focus on growing big.

So im thinking, culture win. Which will be my first ever. Im building the spaceship on the side just in case, but i will win culture before its halfway done. Like so.

Never did flip more cities, im guessing because of the increased garrison. Maybe some more time and another city 3 clicks north of Angkor Wat would have done the trick, but no time for that now. Even if i never flipped another Khmer city, i could have continued to expand past them and into the other civs territory.

It was fun watching the expansion summary at the end. I looked like some sort of green fungus that just kept growing.

2 weeks for a single game? Wow, I thought I was bad, LOL.

If it takes you that long to finish games, then its likely you have RL considerations and commitments that dont leave you with much time to play. No worries about it though, mate, you take as long as you wish, post as often as you feel comfortable, and play however you see fit. This series has not set rules or regulations, it is designed to offer a fun alternative to the "normal" type of game.

I do suggest you watch for the release of the next one, if you like this idea, so you can kind of play along while others do, I know I get more enjoyment from reading the other player reports when I have actually played some of the game myself. Next one is actually going up next week. There is no rules or time limits though, so if you want to play this one, the last one (note, the Backstabber game was, IMHO, more "crazy" than this one ended up), or even another series. I suggest trying the Nobles Club as well, you can also select higher levels in those games, but only Prince and below have the correct AI starting bonuses. Another outstanding series like this is the Lonely Hearts Club, where you always have a totally isolated starting position, so you can "build in peace" so to speak, heh. If I could pick the one series/RPC/etc type of game that has helped me get better, it would be the LHC.

And Welcome to the CFC! Your a member if you say you are, AFAIK there are no minimum posting requirements. And trust me when I say that reading these boards on a regular basis is one of the strongest "moves" you can make to get better at this incredibly complicated game.
