Here are the mini maps of all games submitted so far:

comparemini1.JPG

This doesn't include maps for Stwils, Borealis and Cracker.

Well the maps do prove that the AI can have a totally different game from the same position.
I definitely see the differences in Germany.

If you compare some of the peaceful games (for now :satan: ), India developed differently.
The same spot in my game has 2 English cities, but has 2 Indian cities in Theos game.

Last 10 turns 370bc-170bc

350bc
Shantung founded on the southern coast

310bc
Thought I would mention that barb galleys are everywhere and move swiftly
I move a swordsman down south where there has been a barb crouched for a long time

290bc (we have gotten lots of improvements but I have not noted them here in the log)
We move our swordsman near the crouched barb
Our galley carefully moves near coast to avoid sinking. But meets a barb galley face to face.
Our galley fires on the barb galley and sinks it! :) But we are wounded.

270bc
Our swordsman down south of Tatung attacked the crouching barb, killed him, and is now a veteran and stands ready to defend the coast. He also destroyed the encampment!

250bc.

Swordsman is fortified
Galley is told to wait a turn to heal. (Hope that is the way it is done.)
Galley's turn appears again and again and though I click on wait, nothing happens. Finally I move it. (I think I know what was wrong. It was in unclaimed land and not ours. Will try next time to move it to Shantung and see if we can get it healed there.)

230bc
workers work. (I rarely mention tham, sorry)
Moved galley into Shantung and hit space bar. Maybe that will help.
Cheers arise - not sure why yet.

210bc
Our palace expands
settler moves to unsettled land. But it is almost too small to build on. So he will move on.

190bc
Zulu impis come to the border
We launch another galley
Ghandi offers contact with Babs for 70 gold. We try to bargain
We get contact for 60 gold.
Hammurabi appears. We could trade maps but he wants too much gold
We get Engineering/set to Invention

170bc
Hangchow is burning
I move warrior into city to calm things.
Move new galley.
Move wounded galley into Shantung and press space bar again hoping to heal it

Here is the save

http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads3/Q1_stwils_bc170.sav

I felt like I went no where during my 30 turns. We did get lots of temples, swordsmen, cathedrals, libraries, settlers - but we never got our galleys going to discover the other civs that most of the rest of you have discovered.

I paid Ghandi well for contact with Babylon. But then ended up not trading maps with Hammy.

stwils

Stwils, to heal a boat, it has to stay a whole turn in a city without moving.

About the burning cities, when you are in a republic, your warriors are not doing military police duty anymore. The only way to improve happiness is with luxury resources, the luxury tax or hired entertainers. Buildings like temple or cathedrals make unhappy citizens content and luxury resources makes content citizens happy. A merketplace will increase the effect of luxury resouces when you have more than 2.

When you get to the point where you have to raise the slider above 20%, it is time to stop the growth in your bigger cities and make serious plans about acquiring more luxury resources. Many of my cities stayed at size 9 for a very long time, I wanted to build universities before cathedrals so I stopped their growth when they reached size 9. Except in the early stages of the game, I rarely use 20% luxury tax. I prefer to have smaller cities until I can acquire the luxury resources to let them grow to full size.

I hope this help you a little.

Yes, Jaxon, it does help. Thank you.

I had forgotten about the military not helping with city disorder when you are in Republic.

As for the galley, I kept trying to skip a whole turn with it. For awhile I pressed the "wait" button. Then later the space bar. I think I did not have it actually back on land to wait until my last turn. Not sure.

And thanks for suggesting other ways to help with disorder. I think I did push the luxury slider too high for awhile.

This game has so many levels to "conquer," but I love it.:)

stwils

Stwils, luxury resources are very important. I always put a high priority on gaining control of them. When you begin to expand, you should always consider where are the luxuries and which one can you claim if you set your mind to it. The higher the difficulty level of the game, the higher the value on luxury sites. Not only do they help with happiness, but they are also a useful trading tool for later in the game. Getting a monopoly of any resources is always a very good thing. Here are some screenshots to illustrate what I mean.

Q1_jaxom_shanghai.jpg

York was settled first, my first settler went there to create Shanghai, where I rushed a temple as soon as I could. Later on, I always rushed any cultural buildings as soon as I had the cash to keep cultural control over the wines.

Q1_jaxom_gems.jpg

I did not put a high priority on this luxury as it is not a very productive site. I was lucky the Zulu neglected the area, but part of the reason he did was because of the blockade I made early on. After settling Hangchow, the gem was still unclaimed so the next settler created Anyang.

Q1_jaxom_ivory.jpg

This is something I noticed around 170 BC, lots of ivory to be claimed. I prepared two settler pairs and here is the result from later in the game.

Q1_jaxom_ivory2.jpg

The harbor will connect the ivory to my capitol. Furthermore, my workers will make roads to connect the neighbors and this allowed me to trade for their luxury sooner than would have been possible otherwise.

Just one player to go, and it is chart time :)

I finished last night, launching my space ship in 1480AD (I'm sure nearly everyone beat that date). When I'm paying solo, I rarely micromanage my cities towards the end of the game - I'm sure this affected my score.

Is anyone creating a separate thread to report the rest of the game?
