I don`t have any timeline for my qsc challenge as i forgot to make it. I have submitted my final savegame. So, is qsc challenge need to be submitted also for extra score?

Btw, this is my first gotm and i won by diplo victory.:goodjob:

What is the QSC? I know what it stands for, but what is it?

"You get an extra bonus of 25% added to your final score for submitting a written timeline of events to accompany your final save game. (So who is going to submit a game without a timeline??)"

But it isn't required.

That is so STUPID! The best player might not win the GOTM, because they didn't want to make a timeline. That is SO STUPID!!!!!!!!!!!

STUPID is a very harsh word to use when you do not yet understand fully what is going on.

There is ONE game each month.

You play that game to submit it for the Gotm results and comparison.

You can play the same game (only one time through) put pay a little closer attention to your opening move sequences through 1000BC and submit a save file from this to the QSC. If you submit a timeline to the QSC scoring competition you get a score bonus in the QSC only

You may still continue to play on in the game after you submit the QSC and then submit the finished game to the Gotm.

You basically get to submit parts of the same game to two different types of competitive review.

Participation in the QSC has no influence on the scoring of the GOTM.

Please look at the QSC results posted i9n this forum for the past two months and notice that last month the QSC was won by a player who did not submit the optional timeline.

Over time we expect that there will be players who only play the QSC events due to time restrictions or other choices. We want to encourage every player to play the full Gotm because it benefits your play skills and also lets you have a common frame of reference to discuss game issues with fellow players.

Much of this information is discussed on the QSC webpages at:

http://www.civfanatics.com/doc/civ3/cracker/quik_start/index.htm

(plus there are three really good articles there that you should take time to read and incorporate into your game knowldge. ;) )

one more question... do i need to register to play this qsc challenge?

You do not have to register in GOTM or QSC. You will be registered when you submit the game (see submission procedure). Just try not to change your name in multiple submissions.

Thanks everybody for the info... i`ll make sure.... i`ll make sure to wite a timeline next time... just to get more score....

I heard that next GOTM will be Rome... what difficulty it is... I wonder? Gonna try it now.... I`ve never tried as Rome except for the first one..Tutorial... fortunately i won by diplo :goodjob: on 2047..... 3 turn before retirement..

Goonie,

The fact that by exception someone has won a QSC who didn't submit a timeline is of course no argument.

The real reason that making a timeline is encouraged, is that part of the idea of the Game of the Month is that we help each other to play the game better.

However, the Quick Start Challenge (so far) does not count towards the GOTM competition and ranking, it is entirely extra and voluntary.

I was dissappointed to NOT see a timeline from the best QSC player last time. I wanted to see how he did it to improve my own skills. That's why they give a bonus for the timeline. So we can study the style of the best players and learn. It also make reading the other timeline much more interesting and useful when we can compare what we did to what they did. Without a timeline of our own, it's just comparing one thing---the score.

I did a one paragraph report on CB's game so that you can understand how did he managed to achieve that score. You can find it here.
We can't force people to write up reports for obvious reasons (See how many play Sirian's Realms Beyond with madatory reporting). We can try to understand what they did and it's my role to help you do just that.

I've just started so please be patient and give me feedback so that I can improve.

Ok, thanks for the info! :)

Cracker

Could you put some kind of link between the GOTM pages and the QSC info page. I just spent a fair few minutes blindly stumbling around trying to find the requirements for submitting to QSC, while trying not to go anywhere near the spoiler threads ;)

Turns out I screwed up with saves anyway :( but I'll be more informed the next time. It looks like there used to be a link on the GOTM - did you take it down because the submission date was due (today?)

Cracker,

Agree with MadScot. Could you put a link to QSC from the main GOTM page. It was not until reading your comments earlier in this post that I understood QSC is just the first part of the current GOTM. If I had known this, I would have been more likely to keep QSC data for the early game.

I know you are still in transition for QSC, but it would be helpful if the QSC information were easier to find.

MadScot & Planetfall,

Starting with next month's GOTM you should be able to find all you need so hang on a little longer as Cracker has it all under control.
