STUPID is a very harsh word to use when you do not yet understand fully what is going on.
There is ONE game each month.
You play that game to submit it for the Gotm results and comparison.
You can play the same game (only one time through) put pay a little closer attention to your opening move sequences through 1000BC and submit a save file from this to the QSC. If you submit a timeline to the QSC scoring competition you get a score bonus in the QSC only
You may still continue to play on in the game after you submit the QSC and then submit the finished game to the Gotm.
You basically get to submit parts of the same game to two different types of competitive review.
Participation in the QSC has no influence on the scoring of the GOTM.
Please look at the QSC results posted i9n this forum for the past two months and notice that last month the QSC was won by a player who did not submit the optional timeline.
Over time we expect that there will be players who only play the QSC events due to time restrictions or other choices. We want to encourage every player to play the full Gotm because it benefits your play skills and also lets you have a common frame of reference to discuss game issues with fellow players.
Much of this information is discussed on the QSC webpages at:

(plus there are three really good articles there that you should take time to read and incorporate into your game knowldge.
