Jayne stated the idea many of us have had, to hire an Entertainer. We wait one turn in any event, because nothing else can be done this turn but spend all our gold to buy a Temple, 68 of $77. Anarchy mentions that is a poor choice. I agree a Temple is a poor choice, because this problem is about to happen AGAIN, in only 4 turns, in Elysium. It will grow, and riot. Perhaps also Dellham and RC, the fiends of discontent may strike there next, who knows? Btw, where did the 4 turns hypothesis come from?

Anyway, you can see there are a ridiculous number of choices. I made this little chart:

IPRB Phx=20 2=$19 3=$13 4=$8 turns=$gold
IPRB Arch=30 1=$25 2=$19 3=$13 4=$8
Not completely accurate, but let's not pick nits here, eh?
There are of course, more than 14 combinations. If you think another one is better, please let us know.

Citizens, there are many good ideas posted in the turn thread. Let's continue that TFalls discussion here, and please vote after careful consideration. We will need some gold for other matters. We have $77 and earn $6 gold per turn. I'm leaning toward spending $51 for a 6 turn Settler, half our $gold.

Other things to consider: recalling troops, building Hanging Gardens, hence Science Pottery. When we get to Monarchy, this unrest will subside, but I don't know how much or for how long. Hopefully, there is a better idea than any of mine, speak up.

Well that Legion would quell the resistance but it will take a few turns to reach TF.........
I will ait to see what others say before I make a final choice ;)

BTW It is nice to see someone taking notice of my suggestions! :)

I voted for "settler, 2 turns $69". The reason I picked this option is to get the filler city up and running ASAP. I already posted the reasoning and about our cities' happiness generally in the turn thread (too big to repeat).

Octavian, you are eating too many donuts. With 1231 posts, you are NOT new at this. Somehow, we need to get the TF Settler done, agreed? MonkE's idea is decisive. Other people have said 4 turns (I don't know why) which seems to me to cost $58. I also like the 7 turns, $44, because there seems very little waste. But MonkE's idea is to get the production of another city sooner...

Considering that whilst we IPRB the settler, we will need to have an entertainer, we should be considering the "cost" of the lost turns.

The difference between a 6-turn settler and a 2 turn settler is "only" 18 gold. How many shields are we making per-turn?

I think that this extra gold is worth it, because it also buys us four turns of production of the next unit.

Dodgy logic, but my vote is for the 2-turn settler.:)

I vote for the 2-turn settler too.
I also can't understand why anyone would want to vote for a phalanx when we can have the warrior for free (admittedly wasting 2 shields that we already have, plus another turn of production's worth). It's not defense that is important, and besides, they all "grow up" into not-vet riflemen anyway. :)

We need the assistance from the filler city as soon as possible and the IPRBing the 2-turn settler will allow us this. We can then use the 2 shields that city will give us to make 5-turn warriors and get them to RC, TF and Elysium to quell further rioting. :goodjob:

I've warned people for a long time about the mind-bending effects of doughnut abuse, but only know will they pay me any heed! ;)

We need to get this city back under our controlling light. How dare they think that they know better.

Build a settler asap, get the city under control, before the next time they riot work out how we're going to keep them happy.

It's a king (and/or Queen) that they cry for. Give them a shining light to follow.

(PS. I vote for settler in 2turns.)

Okay I voted for the 7 turn option because it would be good value for money but I can see the need to build the filler city quickly and then start building units to help happyness in other cities.

And my vote goes to the nominee in the shining white tuxedo and the gleaming not-so-white equine teeth, Mr...

Settler-in-2-turns.

(We must have cities to bring back happiness to our people. Where has it gone? Aren't we good enough for them anymore? Ingrates!)

edit: What is the "We are our own worst enemies"-option for? To express general despair - "the situation is bleak, I will go sit in the corner of my room and play no longer"? Thanks for giving us the choice, though, GaryNemo.

:)

You may have to practice your micromanagement here. :)
I'd like to see a warrior then another settler, as we'll still have the 2 whales down south to settler and we should start to think about roading some of the squares for the SSC and setting up a road netwrok to link it to the other towns. We have plenty of grassland and so don't need to worry about irrigation for some time. :goodjob:
Of course if we were to locate either the Vikings or Indians then we may have to change to a unit with a little more punch but we will have to wait and see what happens for the time being. With the HG (which RC ought to get) then we needn't build temples for a while and should concentrate on settling the continent. Gary has proposed another filler city between the 2-whale site and the established cities and we can settle there too. The more cities the merrier! (well, at least when we have a better government)
Can someone please work out the Oedo year that will be next after we discover Monarchy? We should get Writing in 6 or so turns (?) and then Monarchy in another 6.

Duke sounds right. At TFalls, rush this Settler for $69 ($19+25+25). Then begin a unit. Duke's plan sounds good at the moment, a Warrior, which will take more than 5 turns, sadly. This time could be reduced by not building any roads, just settle on the Pure Green Between. Keep that Warrior in TFalls, and begin another Settler. That should keep you busy. And consider spending the $8 every chance you get, once to speed our new Phalanx to free the Chariot, and also spend $8 as appropriate in DellHam. Nearly every turn, we can spend $8 somewhere to accelerate units. Continuous IPRB.
