Question about victory conditions

I just started a new game and selected Space Race as a victory condition. Will this negate my ability to get moon colonies, etc? Or is this handled separately?

No it won't, you just need to have lunar etc terrain on your map, which as of now is only the case when you play a certain scenario (It's small world) and not with maps generated by the game engine.
