Question for BE players : 'Please Wait' still so long?

Deity huge continents turn times in the modern era are 'bring a book' long for me, in civ 5.

BE turns are a lot shorter.

I just timed it. Turn was 242, I had vision of precisely 20 enemy units.
With animations, 32 seconds for all AIs to complete.
Without animations, 10 seconds.
Granted, the difference will be much smaller at early turns. However, in an average game removing animations will certainly save you at least 20 minutes in pointless waiting. Bad design.

It's up to your computer. I play the largest map only, always as many AI as possible, and the turn never takes more than 10 seconds to me, on a laptop (animations off). Graphics maxed too.

I remember i bought a new computer when civIV was released, then sold it for a new one with ciV, and now i got this laptop especially for BE :) A new civ is what justifies a new computer for me.

Tomorrow I'm going to actually time this stuff because imo, time between turns isn't excessive. It wasn't in CiV either. Like I said in my first post maybe a little quicker in BE, but I've never timed it.

Eh, CiV turns could get pretty bad. Diety + huge map = forget it if you're on a slower computer. You could be waiting for decades for the AIs to finish their turns, especially if a bunch of city-states survived through to the later eras. Nothing like bribing nuclear powers into warring on each other just so the nukes would wipe out a bunch of troops and shorten turn times.

BE doesn't seem have that problem though, I will agree.

Am I the only one who finds it odd that there is not a slider option for combat and movement speeds?

Right now we have normal speed (with animations taking ~second per unit for movement, ~two seconds for combat) or instant (total loss of immersion and having to infer what happened rather than actually knowing for sure) - neither are close to what I want.

You're not. The so called "quick combat" and "quick movements" are just "instant don't even slide screen and don't know what hit you" options. Very annoying. Was bad in Civ5, still as bad now.

Movement can be made faster with mods, but so far i didn't found a way to accelerate combat animations.

Quick combat and movement (especially) speed up the game a lot like it did in civ5. It's pretty evident on later turns or you can compare maddjinn turn times to mine if you want since he plays wih movement on, slowing his games.

But I can understand people not liking it.

If the computer's level of play would be reasonable, I don't mind it taking its time. I am a chess player, I am used to wait tens of minutes for the opponent to make a single move.

Accelerating animations is trickier than it sounds.

Weird (but understandable) that all animations are drawn, even under FoW. I was just under the impression only visible units were processed (i.e. if I have a Covert Agent in an enemy city, I can observe the AI turn around that city).
