My friends and I were playing MP over the weekend. Had a blast to begin with. Always fun playing with your buddies. :goodjob:

Anyway, my question is when you are setting up the MP in the menu screen, you know how you can set up your difficulty level for each players. Like I can put as Emperor, my friend can put as deity and another friend can put as prince level. Basically you can put different levels in the same game for each player...How does this really work?

I mean, I tried playing deity on single player and computer rush make lots of cities and tries to attack you with like 10 units early in the game if you are near them. I also played prince and it was pretty easy going, I had no problem taking over computer's land. In MP how does this really work? Does computer rush make cities or they play as prince level but with military advantages?

While that thread does point out the handicap/bonus' the players/AI get. It doesn't quite explain how to determine what level the AI is playing at when you're playing with multiple people at different settings.

I've started playing some co-op games with a few friends who are new to CiV, and they're both playing at Warlord level, while i'm at King, and I can't figure out if the AI difficulty is the average of all 3 of our difficulty levels, or the difficulty of the Host.

mabalogna- What settings are you guys playing at? Like map size and how many AI and human players? Also, did this ever happen to you guys? After my friends and I finished playing, we took a break and reload the game after, but on the menu screen, all of our difficulty level became PRINCE level...

I've been wondering the same, and I find it strange there isn't more information about this.

In a single player game, it doesn't really matter if you give a bonus to the AI or penalize the player to make the game harder. And from what I see it seems like they implement difficulties mostly by giving bonus to the AI. This kind of make sense as players can play at every level without it being very different. Build costs are still the same, purchase costs are still the same, etc.

But in a multi player setting this doesn't make sense. If you're gonna have a multi player game with different difficulty settings for the player, then the adjustment needs to be player bonuses and penalties. But I can't find any, apart from the happiness from difficulty setting.

I'd hope this functionality worked, as it is nice to be able to set handicap so all are doing ok in the same game. But it doesn't look like it.
