As I expect to become in the long run a player that choses mostly Immortal level, I will probably chose Sovereign for my first game in order to get the hang of the game a little.

What about you guys ? going for easier level at first ? Going for Deity right off the bat ?

I wonder how those difficulty levels will compare to what we got used to with VI....

I plan to play on Viceroy. From some of the preview streams it seems like the "default" difficulty is Governor but from those same streams it seems like they steamroll the AI even when they clearly don't fully understand what they are doing.
One of the steamers said the AI is actually pretty strong in Civ7 but most streamers are good players, but not top players (i'd bet many players on theses boards are better than most streamers) so i take that with a grain of salt. However there will be so many new mechanisms to learn i don't want to crank up difficulty too much for the first game. I'll probably move to sovereign quickly as Emperor/Immortal were the difficulties i most enjoyed in Civ6 (i just didn't like how front-loaded Deity was, i could beat it but that meant ignoring some aspects of the game i enjoyed due to the silly head-start the AI receive). I hope the AI won't be totally useless on the military front this time.

Whatever is equivalent to Prince (is that Viceroy or Sovereign?) and then go from there depending on how easy it is.
I'd say probably Governor as it's the default difficulty and IIRC Prince was default in Civ6.

Probably Sovereign.

I want low enough difficulty that I can learn, but high enough difficulty that I'm learning the right lessons

Ursa Ryan’s video suggested that I should start on Governor to learn the game, but other players have suggested it’s quite easy?

I don’t know really - whichever is the neutral difficulty I guess.

Ursa seemed to direct his videos at new players who haven’t played much Civ.

I got to the point where I could consistently win on Immortal in Civ V and could win on Deity with enough effort, but for VII I'm probably going to start no higher than Sovereign, in order to get a feel for all the new wrinkles in gameplay without the AI grabbing every wonder and threatening to curbstomp me right from the start.

Viceroy or Sovereign but I voted Viceroy because I didn't take a look at the posts before I voted. I took a look and saw that I could've voted Sovereign as well, but I still feel strongly towards Viceroy still. If it's too easy though, I would go for Sovereign.

One level higher than default I think. I presume that's Sovereign? I want to learn the systems first, but not play something with 0 challenge...
If some videos i've seen are to be believed, the default is Governor (2nd) so 1 higher would be Viceroy (3rd). It seems like Firaxis decided to cut on the number of lower difficulties, hopefully it's because very few players actually played on Settler and not because the AI is so bad that lowest difficulty wouldn't make sense 🤔

I'm thinking viceroy. I want to learn the systems. I hope beating it also gets the achievement for the lower difficulty levels. I don't really want to play those.
